bit of a hot topic

do you have insurance? is it horse and rider or just one of these?

do you think its important to have insurance for horse and rider or just one or the other,

and which insurance company do you find is the best and are with?

some ladies i know dont have insurance at all, which to me is very scary!

2 Of mine are fully insured, my old boy isnt as when he got to 17 NFU DOUBLED his premium and wanted £600 a year (basic cover!) to insure him for a monetry value of £500!!

They basically didnt want to insure him but were'nt honest enough to decline cover (which annoyed me even more!) so he's just covered TPO with BHS gold insurance now for £60 a year!

Petplan for me :) always been brillian to speak to, pay up immediately and vets are all happy to be paid direct. They paid up £5000 for a horse with OCD that had only been insured for 3 weeks and even the vets were shocked they agreed but they never quibbled.

totally agree anything can happen best to be cobvered than not

Every horse owner should have at least 3rd party liability insurance. It is downright irresponsible not to!
I was deliberately kicked and very seriously injured by a horse earlier this year, as her owner rode her passed me and my horse on a narrow forest track.
At that time she had foolishly let her insurance lapse.......

I'm the same as Callisto with a comprehensive policy, also, there are many yards, including the one I am at, who insist upon (and you have to produce a copy) of insurance. I have no problem with this at all as it also confirms my fellow liveries have the same cover, so if something should happen involving their horse and mine it should be relatively straight forward to sort to process.

Fully comp NFU for me too. I find it odd when people say they can't afford insurance, surely they could afford a massive vet bill even less? Or legal fees in case if an accident?

NFU for me, I'm covered and so are the horses. Having had a couple of injuries to horses in the past that totalled £2-3000 I think vets fee cover is pretty important. And those injuries weren't even that bad, no surgery or anything like that.

many thanks for your replies im very greatful,
To be honest i wouldnt be without it either, horses are expensive especially when poorly,

At the very least you should have third party insurance in case your horse causes an accident. Personally all of mine are comprehensively insured including vets fees, and I wouldn't be happy without it - my friend does not have vets fees insurance and has recently had to find over £3000 to cover the treatment of her boy, and he's not recovered yet..

We are with the NFU - can't fault them, horses, horsebox, trailer and tack insured with them.

all 3 of mine are insured, wouldnt be without it,, even the old boy is covered,, just in case,, my baby just had another case of uveitus which would have cost me over £500 so im glad im covered,, he is kbis,, im also with seib with the other 2 ,,
