Just wondered if anyone could recommend a really good winter jacket ?
I have lived in my Just Togs coat for years, but I think it finally needs to be retired , so looking for something that is going to waterproof, warm, comfortable for riding in and not too expensive. I've had a look at Just Togs - does anyone have an up to date coat from them, and if so what are they like?
Any other recommendations? Thanks |

Posted - 01 Nov 2012 : 12:00:27 PM Seconding the caution about Rockfish sizes - they are evidently mean for skinny little things, not for those of us with a Mae West figure! I have the largest size, and it *just* fits.

Posted - 31 Oct 2012 : 11:57:06 PM I have the pink Rockfish Hi- viz overtrousers which with my yellow Hi-viz jacket and Lily's yellow Hi-viz exercise sheet frightens most cars into approaching with caution
However I have been mistaken for a car parking attendent whilst wearing the jacket in a non- horse environment..... |

Posted - 31 Oct 2012 : 9:33:50 PM Second Callisto on the Rockfish fitting go one up if you want to layer up. I love my waterproof hi viz....stylish and yet practical, lots of pockets, velcro cuffs AND apparently I can be spotted from miles away glowing like a big yellow beacon! |

Posted - 31 Oct 2012 : 7:21:48 PM If you do go for Rockfish then be aware that they are quite a snug fit - if in doubt go larger rather than smaller I haven't had any trouble with wet wrists, but tend to wear them with gloves that cover up the gap. |

Posted - 31 Oct 2012 : 6:53:41 PM Go to ebay for rockfish - massively cheaper than shops! I have a yellow Rockfish jacket but am not convinced how waterproof it is yet. I'm not keen on the fact it doesn't have storm cuffs.
If you want something warm, waterproof and hi-viz, try your local Army surplus for ex-police jackets!

Posted - 30 Oct 2012 : 8:08:55 PM Thanks all! Off to have a look at Rockfish - didn't know they even did jackets. To be honest as long as it is warm and waterproof I don't mind scaring the horses with a lurid colour!! |

Posted - 30 Oct 2012 : 3:00:55 PM I have a bright yellow Hi-viz Rockfish Jacket - it is a shell, waterproof and windproof - it's great, and makes me feel a lot safer on our dark lanes. Just add or subtract layers underneath. I also have a Musto Jacket from 1992, it's Goretex, cost a lot then and still very presentable, windproof and waterproof, so yes they are incredibly good value for money, only down side is it's Navy Blue, so I have to wear a yellow vest with it - hence the bright yellow Rockfish one. I have also bought a 'puffa' style bright yellow Rockfish jacket for winter use if it gets very cold, but haven't used it yet, so can't review it for you.
I had a Kyra K one that was great until I washed it (as instructed), glad I bought it in a sale, and wouldn't buy another one.
I also have a very nice Ariat wind and waterproof jacket, but that one isn't allowed near the horses....
Ebay is a great source of jackets at good prices - once you have decided which one you want. The only jacket I have ever paid full price for was the original Musto one - didn't have ebay then |

Posted - 30 Oct 2012 : 2:00:10 PM Musto every time. My old Musto is 11 years old and other than a bit of wear around the cuffs is still as watertight and windproof as the day I got it. I had a new one a couple of years ago and that is fab as well. They are expensive but my word they are value for money! |

Posted - 30 Oct 2012 : 1:53:18 PM I'm a big fan of Pikeur jackets (usually bought in the sales), but one of the best jackets I have is one I got given from a house clearance. It's rubberised fluorescent yellow with a fleece lining. Sounds awful, but it's warm, completely waterproof, bright with relective strips on and loads of pockets. No make on it, sorry. |

Posted - 30 Oct 2012 : 12:09:25 PM I've just splashed out on a Lucinda Green Badminton Jacket (reduced price Hope Valley Saddlery!) it is gorgeous. I haven't tested it in the rain yet though, in fact it looks too nice to wear out with the horses
