Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 6:09:16 PM OMG, this is fantastic to see. Thank you so much for putting the video up!
First, I love your horse. She is not too reactive; she is not "flighty"; she is actually a very level headed girl. Considering everything go on here I think she's a total angel! And I don't think you'll have any trouble riding her when you get that far.
Also, I think Monty has the nicest manner and he is right that we often allow our horses to walk all over us. I do it, too, but more in my incidental handling of them than anything. Like, I'm walking across the field with hay and I get mugged. Stupid of me.
About the umbrellas. If I may be critical here of Monty (who, again, I find charming!), I feel he'd have been better to have gone much slower with the umbrellas. I'd have gotten the umbrella and walked AWAY from the horse while opening and shutting it. I do this with my own horses (including Esme who is similar to your horse in how she reacts, I think). I hold the long line (22' often!) and open and shut the umbrella with one hand as I walk away from the horse. So I am towing along with my horse behind me and the umbrella in front of me. gradually, over a period of minutes, the horse gets closer and closer to the umbrella.
I then try to see if I can do what Monty does in the beginning, which is to flap it while she is very near him, and in fact standing still (though he does not hold her). He started there, which meant he thought your horse could cope (which she did) but not every horse would.
I feel he introduced the second umbrella too soon. However, I love the "squeeze" between the two as an exercise (must try that one if I can get some helpers).
I think your mare is very quiet. At least, compared to what I am used to. I think she's going to be F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.!!!

Posted - 04 Nov 2012 : 4:59:00 PM I think this is right, it all looks more dramatic than when I was as the demo, Kamora has got the habit of getting in your space, I think when I use the Duly Halter I am to soft and not firm enough with her.

Posted - 02 Nov 2012 : 11:54:41 PM Um, did you mean to say horniest Glo....
I am so sorry she had such a scare, and I can't believe the holiday makers tried to sneak off as opposed to checking that she wasn't badly hurt.
On the other hand how brilliant to be able to take her straight to the Monty Roberts thing for desensitisation - looking forward to the video

Posted - 02 Nov 2012 : 10:39:50 PM Well I had a really good time, It all started on Tuesday. I had just bin out ridding and the baby's where in the arena (they charge around when the other horse goes out and I am trying to save the grass) I was in the stable doing something and I noticed the the baby's where looking up to the yard gate, not thinking anything I returned to the stable, then heard a crash and Kamora had galloped down the arena and jumped a 5 bar gate in to the field smashing the top rail of the gate and breaking a 8in gate post. I ran up the yard to see what had frightened them to see our holiday makers walking away quickly so I would not see them with the biggest umbrellas I had ever seen. The thing is it wasn't even raining ( I am claiming off there holiday insurance for repairs to the gate and post etc)
Well I was telling Linda this before Monty had seen the horses for the demo, and we where talking that if I had been riding her and she had seen an umbrella, and just bolted off that I probably would never ride her again! The horses are put in to a round pen to check for soundness before the demo and Kamora had a funny kink in her tail, she had trotted up sound the night before, anyway after talking to Monty about what had happened he said that he would not be happy to ride a horse that may do that again and that there was some issues there so in the demo she was desensitised to umbrellas and plastic bags.
To be horniest before I took Kamora to the demo I was thinking about the umbrellas and I was worried if it would happen again, If she had been started I would always been thinking what would happen if I met one on the road etc.
With Christmas coming and parties I would have had little time to do much, so I am going to work on putting the odds in my favour and try to get her used to as much before I get on her.
My son had videoed it and I will try to post it later. I haven't seen it yet as well.
The thing is you would think I would be disappointed that she wasn't started, but I just feel relived that I don't have to ride her yet.
