I'm just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing warm weather issues which you'd not normally find for October?

For example, the midges have been absolutely DREADFUL. I've been roughing my boy off for winter - his coat is growing in, his back shoes pulled and I've banged his tail rather short to keep out of the mud. But in doing so, I think perhaps I've not left him QUITE enough to keep the midges from attacking his sheath. He came in the other day with an absolutelly massively swollen sheath. I've cleaned it and done hot / cold compress to help with the Oedema - and then applied summer fly cream to keep the bloodsuckers away.

Also, have noticed he's peeing for Britain too. It could perhaps be a late season clover flush, causing so much urination? His stable has been resembling the Somme in the mornings, which isn't like him.

Anyone else seeing anythign weird?

Problem gone this morning - ice everywhere and cold north winds.

My friend who lives in France had snow today.

Have to say my horse is weeing a lot too, but the grass is long and very wet. Midges everywhere and being a sweet itch sufferer I clip his neck and he is much happier.

I'm just feeling like a terrible mummy since he ended up with the Oedema in a rather sensitive area.

I will keep an eye on the excessive weeing for a bit - just to see if it slows down with the colder weather (and the grass stops growing so fast). Otherwise I might end up getting bloods done (just what I need at the minute).

But the weather this year has been the weirdest. Wet/cold/dark all summer. Then some glorious weather in the autumn. The critters don't know what to make of it. Sammy's resembling a yak at the moment with his huge coat. I just can't wait for all this nonesense extra work to go away so I can fire up teh clippers and get riding again!

Well, it's certainly not warm now! Temperature has dropped drastically in the last 24 hours .
