Ozzy had a small graze / cut on his coronet band a month or so ago. I washed it with hibiscrub and then put silver spray on it.
It didn't appear to cause him any problems but now he has this growth like thing on his hoof...!
What do you think it is..? I'm panicking it could be a keratoma (not sure that's spelt correctly..)
It is hard to touch and there is nothing weeping out of it. ETA - it is on his front left hoof on the outside.
I have the farrier on Friday so will let him have a look but don't really want him to rasp it in case it makes it worse or aggravates it..? Would you get the vet..?

One of mine did something similar to himself years ago & it wept for a while but it was alot worse & scarred his coronet band which resulted in having a permanent crack down the side of his hind foot !
The farrier staples it now hes 30 yrs old & unshod & hes quite oblivious to it ! |

OH agrees with Arabesque, damaged hoof which will rasp down, maybe the farrier will put in some filler, my thought that bit though. |

Last year my horse injured his coronary band on a dressage board. The vet at the show said that farrier or vet could do some trimming of it when I got home to avoid an unsightly mark on the hoof. The farrier looked at it and left it alone, and the mark/cut did grow in to the hoof, but it never looked like your horses. But I reckon that's what the show vet was thinking it might turn in to without a bit of trimming at the time. It'll take about a year or so for it to grow out. |

I'd agree with everyone else here it looks like proud flesh which will grow down the hoof as horn. |

Pasch once cut himself on coronet band quite deeply playing racehorse in the field,healed but had a growth like a horizontal scar growing down in the hoof it was longer than this and hard to touch,never gave him any problem and eventually got rasped away a few months later when it reached end of hoof.So don't worry probably the same your farrier will reassure you about it! |

That just looks like a bit of damaged horn growing down from the coronet band, which I am sure your farrier will confirm. |

Looks like it's just the wound grown down in the interim - a tread sort of wrinkles the coronary band area and leaves an untidy wound. Hopefully it will just grow out with his hoof.

I once had a horse who over-reached onto the coronet band causing a wound which developed proud skin as it healed. The 'proud skin' turned into horn and grew down with the hoof, eventually just being rasped away. Hopefully this is a similar thing, I wouldn't panic, speak to your farier on Friday and take it from there. |
