Trying to get us back on the road need tow car have use of double hunter IW trailer but its so heavy for one, borrowed a friends single IW and was impressed with it both on tow and room for my shy 15hh boy. Does anyone else have a single. The only advantage i can see is the what if someone needs a lift to a show? and that rarely happends my side of the world. Or am i being silly thinking if i got a smaller trailer i could get a smaller 4x4

I've had my IW single for 13 years now and though we don't do shows any more since moving to France, I loved it in the UK. I towed with a Volvo estate and only ever had trouble getting off a field once, when a tractor came to the rescue. My horse travelled brilliantly in it and had room to stand almost diagonally; he'd move once in the first 50 yards just to get his balance, then it was plain sailing.

Hi,
I have recently got an Ifor 401 (year 2008 model, 6 months before they changed shape)
It is lovely to tow, have been up and down the motorway with it and through town and country with no problems.
It washes down really well and is surprisingly roomy inside.
This is mine when I first got it

And Dine as we arrived at our first show

Loved my Ifor W. single, 401 ( I think), aluminium floor, loads more space than one half of a normal double. Towed like a dream behind my Peugeot 406 and was legal. Not a good outfit if on a wet field, would have preferred a 4 wheel drive for the ONE occasion I got stuck on a field, but for economy it was really superb. Sold really well second hand too. Only sold it cos I needed a big solid Rice to bring 2 to France, towed with a gas guzzling truck. Miss it to be honest :(

Hi

I had an ifor williams 403 last year. Great trailer towed well and perfectly legally behind my mondeo. I sold it when my horse did his tendon in.The only problem I has ws that as it wasnt as wide as 2 horse trailer people dirving down the narrow lane from our yard expected me to squeeze past them where as with a two horse trailer they would have reversed back to give me room....

Yes - love mine Have loaded several arabs in it and they've all be just fine. They seem to travel well in it, it's easy to hitch up, easy to tow, and can go wherever the car goes because it's not so wide. Like Arachnid I have a Subi Forrester, still a 4x4 but not too large. I have towed mine with large estate cars but do prefer to tow with a large engine 4x4 as it then has no problems up hills.

Every now and then I keep thinking I should buy a double just because sometimes it's nice to travel together with someone, but can't really justify the extra costs! Can always rent a little lorry for those odd occasions.

I have a single trailer too. It does mean you can have a smaller car. I tow mine with a Subaru Forrester which is still a 4x4 but looks like an estate car. Its sort of a blessing and a curse not being able to take passengers. Lots of people at my yard have borrowed it for their horses - they all seem to load into it quite easily. The biggest horse I have put into it is my friend's TBx who is about 15.3 - dont think it would fit a bigger one, but absolutely ideal for arabs.

I have had a single trailer now for 10 years- Ifor Williams. It is fantastic. I have towed from North East Scotland (it takes me about 5 hours to get over the border into England) to Exmoor, Ireland, England and Wales many times.

I have always until this last year towed with a large car (Nissan Primera, VW Passat Estate), this year I have a small 4 x 4 (Toyota Rav).

I have never found it to be a problem at all and tow in high winds and heavy rain, on country roads and motorways without problems. My horses seem to like the trailer, never seem to move and are happy to load and travel well.

I also now have a few friends with one as well.

It would be nice to take someone else to a show but you can't make your purchases surrounding that- if you really want to be helpful to others you could take them to an event on a day you are free of events yourself- also saves the pair bonding problem of travelling horses together that can sometimes happen.
