Posted - 16 Apr 2012 : 10:23:48 AM .......to enjoy a good ride with your best friend!!
My Hubby and our 16.2hh Anglo Gelding, out enjoying a Spring Ride (Tony is 6`3" and makes Oscar look like a pony) Both are getting a bit long in the tooth....their joint age being 85yrs (He loves that horse more than he loves me)!!
Oscar (WRENTHORPE ROMEO)is four generations of Sunray breeding though he does not carry our stud prefix. My friend purchased his dam (Sunray Sapphire) from us and used our stallion to cover her each year. Oscar is one of four full blood siblings and he came back to us as a yearling, following the sudden and untimely death of our dear friend.
We sold him as a two year old and then found him a home as a seven year old, when his owner`s rider unexpectedly passed away. The new home was not a success, his owner just schooling, schooling, schooling.....never taking him out for hacks or pleasure riding Eventually Oscar rebelled!! We were contacted to say they had now lost confidence and could we help??
Tony had not ridden for twenty years but had always wanted one of our Stallion, Scelebrity`s, offspring to ride. Oscar certainly was tall enough....SO...told them I would come and collect Oscar but was not prepared to pay a penny for him, as their relentless schooling regime had probably had very detrimental effect on his attitude to being ridden.
That was almost ten years ago.....Oscar could not be a happier horse...is ridden only in a bitless bridle three times a week, Tony boxing him to the local Parks and Cannock Chase and Organised Pleasure Rides which have miles of rambling riding landscape ] Oscar is a very big moving powerful horse and his companion riders often have difficulty keeping up with his ground devouring paces. He really looks after Tony, never ever thinking of unseating him, however excited he may be......just a super super horse who has given Tony so much pleasure being a joy to own and ride!!
This pic taken in 2006 (before going bitless)
Tony and Oscar in 2002 shortly after Oscar came to us
Footnote: Oscar was also a big winner in the Showring in Anglo/PBA and Open Classes at the Majors, being a Champion Riding Horse, twice Reserve British National Champion and Reserve Supreme. He was always much admired by the ridden Judges, one very top Arabian Judge asking if she could have the ride of him, as she rated him as a HOYS Large Riding Horse
Oscar at North Staffs AHS Summer `C` Show gaining Reserve Supreme of Show, as a 3yr old.
Oscar as 9yr old in 2003 at Midlands AHS `C` Show Malvern He was awarded Reserve Champion...only beaten by a Stallion
It is amazing how they grey out with the years. He is now a fleabitten almost white grey.

Posted - 22 Apr 2012 : 2:08:36 PM As I read.....Oscar and Tony, along with his, (Oscar`s girlfriend Gem) gone off for a great ride on Cannock Chase...one of their favourite haunts as both horses just love the steep hills and miles of open riding terrain. They are usually out for four hours before returning....all happy and relaxed!!
GEM aka Sameon Eternal Elegance, is the Dam of twice BNC High Percentage Coloured Part Bred Arabian, Enchanted Eternal Moon by JC`Aramoon (photo of Moon appears on front cover of AHS National Show 2011 Catalogue)

OH Tony can definitely confirm the armchair ride, when he is on Oscar and he is delighted with all the affirmative comments about his horse of a lifetime!!
