Has anyone ever used pig oil as a show preparation, an old friend swears by it. He dilutes it with water 50/50.

Maybe I didnn't do a big enough/leave it on for long enough patch test....but my po lost lots of hair on her legs when i used it for a while this winter. I tried it (on recommendation) as everyone said how great/cheap it was (sent for stuff from someone with welsh cobs and it had the flowers of sulphur in it) but next year I'll go back to baby oil!!

It is fantatsic stuff but always do a patch test first, we dilute it with water, quarter marks look amazing when pig oil is used!!

be very careful always do a patch test as alot of horses have ended up bald due to having a reaction... my boy had a reaction from a patch test as I wanted to use it for mud fever....

Do you simply spray it on like coat gloss?

It's a mineral oil used by farmers to soften and protect pigs' skin.
jackiedo Posted - 11 Apr 2012 : 7:49:18 PM
Is it made from real pigs?

Thanks for the advice, knowing my luck all my lot will be allergic.

Please do a test on a small area first, it is rare but some horses are allergic to pig oil.
jacjac Posted - 10 Apr 2012 : 9:22:40 PM
It's very cheap a 5l cost about £19, does anyone know if you can put it in a trigger spray bottle.

Is gets used loads here, mostly on the Friesian or the Cobs and all over the floor They dilute it with sulphur or flower of sulphur, something like that but yes it brings up feathers lovely and everything else it touches - it is rather messy though and I wouldn't use it on a grey or white horse, everything will stick.
