Now that we're barefoot decided to try out riding in the snow this morning, and little Senj happily thundered round 18km, and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Could just hack as usual, trotting and cantering, several sharp spooks sideways and no slipping at all, very impressive and great fun. Obviousy harder work than normal though as Senj usually bounces round this route as if he's not done anything, but he was rather knackered today!

Quarabian, we had read that the snow didn't ball up in the feet at all, but set off fairly dubiously, and were quite amazed, yet another benefit of having his shoes off! (though in Senj's case our biggest benefit has been that he no longer trips and falls on his face on a regular basis). Though he did insist on pawing up the snow and stuck his head right down to eyeball the ground and check it was still road under there, a process which was repeated the second we went on the verge, though he was quite happy after that.

Thanks Eeyore, unfortunately Senj is not the most patient. The top two photos are of him disappearing because when I tried to jog to get ahead of them to take the photos Senj broke into an indignant jog and rapidly passed me. In the bottom one he's eyeballing me unhappily because he was trying to run off, while we were trying to persuade him to pose, that one was the best we managed!

Great photos, Senj is lovely

Snow doesn't ball up in the feet like shod hooves either. Another plus for barefoot.

I love the clip as well, I often do funny clips that have caused a few looks when out and about, but like you I like to try and leave some coat on in places if they dont need it all off, our welsh D is sporting a custom clip as I call it, and Scooter is bare as he has an awful coat due to his age.

The lady who came to clip him was rather horrified, and kept asking if we were sure that was what we wanted! No choice really though, Senj is in fairly hard work so was sweating a lot, but the little rat also keeps trying to drop weight and is already in heavyweight rugs so we didn't want to take fur off any bits that stick out of the rug, and taking fur from saddle/girth area is not an option as accidentally going a couple of inches into the girth area last year lead to rubbing!

Liking the clip too- effective! Will do what you need it do- well done for being a little alternative with the clipping!

Mucho jealous too - it must be wonderful to go out in the snow. Raf is now shod following a disasterous attempt at barefoot so I daren't go out in the snow. Would love to though, maybe one day...

Mucho jealous- I live in NE Scotland and we usually have loads of snow riding opportunities- none at all here this year- we have not even had proper snow!
