we have a light frost tonight, ive just been out to give the babies there supper and the grass is crispy, don,t think it will be enough to freeze the mud though .

I am in Scotland, Fife. Mine haven't really had rugs on yet. Just the odd day here and there.
Next year we are defo going to matt all the gateways.

Seems like half of the mud from our fields is on my horses!!! Grrrr.

It is too warm for rugs but the little darlings are taking advantage of the spa treatment.

Fields are in Northumberland, house on edge of North Pennines
basbob Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 5:36:56 PM
No mud here - still above 20 degrees and the horses are still out! Am lovin' it!

Where are you Procorclaire & Sab2?

Up until the other night we havent had rain in Cheshire for so long its unreal. The grass is still growing like mad so dont really want any rain to be honest.

Luckily all my fields gateways are laiden with hardcore or the oldfashioned slabs from years ago and the fields are very free draining aswell. So count myself lucky really dont suffer to much in the way of mud!!

no real mud here...no rain for weeks.....don't remember a time when my horse was so clean and only wearing medium to light rugs in November(he is clipped)...would like a bit of sun though it is so very very dull and misty most of the time!...just keeping an eye on his feet though (esp'frog area) as the ground is pretty damp despite the dry weather.
sab2 Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 4:40:17 PM
I am sick of the mud, we have loads of it, there is standing water on some of our fields, the area round the water troughs is really deep, like you the frost coming back again is very welcome as long as it dosen,t bring the snow with it,we have had a couple of hard frost already . I am having to use my school for turnout for the mare and foal as its so wet the poor foal was struggling to walk through it, roll on the summer

Mud??? We haven't had appreciable rain for weeks/months, the horses are still on their summer grazing (but moving on Sunday), the grass is still growing a little and neither of mine are rugged yet. Oh yes, I hacked out for an hour & a half today without a coat and I haven't turned my central heating on yet!

The money is good as place is paying for it's self which is what we wanted but now I wish I'd kept it for myself. 2 of the liveries are good friends but the other 2 are a pain in the a**e.
pinkvboots Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 1:03:32 PM
We are lucky as we have two gateways to our field so they don't really get that cut up and boggy, the money is good from the liveries I am sure but hey nothing like having your own place is there.
proctorclaire Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 12:59:06 PM
I was planning on them being out 24/7 now got my own yard but the weather and fields don't want to play nice!!! I've sectioned the field off to rest for summer and putting hay out. I do have 3 big fields but I took liveries on (who's great idea was that! I could have had all that land to myself and rotated fields haha).
pinkvboots Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 12:51:46 PM
Same here not got any mud fields are really dry, ours are still out at night too but will be in at night from next week.

Mud? What mud?
Can't remember the last time it rained with us?

Hope this dry weather keeps up as my lot are still out 24/7
