Posted - 21 Nov 2011 : 7:59:44 PM Sunny is currently in a Happy mouth loose ring with a revolving lozenge, which he seems suited with, the only issue I have is the as he's quite 'chompy' it ends up with sharp edges on the mouth piece. So ideally I want to swap to a metal bit & quite like the idea of the salox or aurigan. He has a lovely soft mouth which I'd like to keep & wouldn't like to think changing his bit would upset him! Has anybody had any experience with either of these bits? I have noticed rather a large price difference too! |

I use this bit in both ours.Only about £12 each. I backed borris in one and he still uses it. I have found they do the same bit in a hanging cheek and pelham, so have bought the pelham version for the future shows (only £27)!! |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 7:45:37 PM Thanks for all the input guys, think we'll opt for the NS (piggy bank can't handle the trauma of a shiney new Sprenger) We're a little to far away from you Sab2 in sunny Burnley, but thanks for the lovely offer Tried a 5.5 one on him tonight (oh the joys of a friend who collects bits for fun!!) and I think that should do the trick. Lunged him tonight in a borrowed NS and he seemed to relax nicely in it, no messing with his mouth and he relaxed down thorough his neck and shoulders too

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 4:31:26 PM Honey i have put them side by side and cannot see a huge amount of difference, saying that i am not sure what size they are , also some are eggbut and some loose ring, i will say that the Sprenger seem to be a bit tougher , the sprenger are still nice and smooth but a couple of the neue schule are looking a little bit rough, sorry i am not a huge amount of help, if you live anywhere near me you are welcome to come across and try them we are on the border of Co Durham/Northumberland |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 2:45:20 PM I had the same problem with my Happy Mouth and had to wrap it with latex bandage! Neue Schule was great and much cheaper than Sprenger. Shires also do a copper ball training bit which I've used as well and is also fab |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 2:43:17 PM We have both and almost every horse is happy in them. Did also find a cheap shires bit with curved bars, copper lozenge and sweet iron mouthpiece. Is going down well with the neddies so far! Treated myself to NS pelham for the AA when she's ready - she only has a little mouth, bless her. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 1:00:47 PM I think my Neue Schule for Arabi is 5.5 and the other one is 5.75 you used to be able to go on the website and download a measure as the bits are different compared to others. |

How do you find the sizing compares on the 2 different brands Sab2? I tried a KK ultra on him last night in his usual 5" and it was too small. Just wondering if I order the Neue Schule if they size the same as the KK I'd need a bigger size. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 11:39:24 AM Hi, I think from memory my bit is the 14mm mouthpiece - I'm not 100% but he is not keen on having a massive mouth full- I would second callisto and definitely give the horse bit bank a call, really helpful and if one doesn't work (you try for a month) you can send it back and try a different one. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 10:27:48 AM Could you borrow one first to try? Because everyone recommended them I bought Lily the KK Sprenger lozenge loose ring snaffle - she didn't like it at all, (in fact I bought her two in different sizes), as a result we went bitless for a while, but by accident I found she is very happy in a stainless steel mullen mouth pelham and for the first time she doesn't have a dry mouth, so if you can use a bit exchange to find out what the best option is it could save you money. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 09:32:06 AM The Neue Schule starter snaffle was the only thing Arabi would tolerate when I backed him and he is still ridden in it now, a few months back we bought one to try on Grace our Warmblood and we had started riding her again and she was not happy in her mouth at all, well she was like a different horse the first time we used it. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 12:34:50 AM I have used neue schule and found it an excellent bit that ensures a nice moist mouth for the horse too. Peanut loose ring snaffle.I would certainly recommend. Also found the same result in KK sprenger but far more costly! |

Posted - 21 Nov 2011 : 10:23:37 PM Thanks guys it's just nice to get opinions from those with experience, bitting can be a mine field there's so much choice! Next question..What diameter mouth piece do you all have, as the happy mouth is quite chunky would he be comfortable in something a little thinner? |

Posted - 21 Nov 2011 : 9:39:40 PM Hi i would like to say i used to be the rep for spenger and vote for them every time, they are more expensive and thats cos they are made in germany not china and have a life time warrenty for if ever they break. i even had a bit made by sprenger as they didnt do the mouth thickness in a bit i wanted it too 2 weeks and is ace!!! but its just my opinion. xxx |

Posted - 21 Nov 2011 : 8:21:08 PM Hi, I have my boy in a neue schule loose ring tranz lozenge bit and I can honestly say its the best he's ever gone- relaxes his jaw and really seems much more comfortable as he always had a tendency to have a dry mouth but the salox seems to be much more acceptable. I used the neue schule bit bank and tried a hanging cheek which was good but too much so got a simple loose ring and bingo found the one- would highly reccommend their service as they took a lot of time to suggest suitable bits and very quick to send them out and refund as neccessary. |
