One for the dressage arabs and partbreds!

Took my lovely pb out to our last party of 2011. We kicked it up a notch - having spent the summer working towards Riding Club championships at Prelim level and have done but a couple of Novice tests, my RI tasked me with riding an Elem by season's end. Just a local unaff comp so nothing too lofty, but still a big ask as some of the movements on the Novice and Elem tests were new to us.

Managed a third in the Novice test with a 66.6 and won the Elem test with a 62.4. Still have lots to do to become established at that level but definitely had some good positive constructive comments and the negative comments were spot on, so all good feedback.

I always keep an eye out for the pure and part breds in the boards - but never see many. So...has anyone on this forum doing dressage? And what's the highest level that we know of collectively that any arab (part or pure) competing at - past or present? I need some inspiration!

We had another great day! He was 3rd on the prelim and then he won the novice with an incredible score of 72.5%!!! Over the moon!!

That's really great zebo - so how did you get on today? Have you got any photos?
zebo Posted - 19 Nov 2011 : 8:45:54 PM
I've just started a bit of dressage with my boy Piatza who has been a show horse all his life to date and has been a prolific winner under saddle.
I thought I'd give dressage a try over the winter to keep him busy and he seems to enjoy himself and has done pretty well already with a 2nd at Prelim with 67.9% and a win at Novice with 65.2%. He is proving that pure breds can perform well at dressage.
We're off out again tomorrow, wish us luck!!!

Hi we are dressage fans we compete affiliated at novice / elementary although hope to be doing mediums by end of next year. We have six points now and have only been out a handful of times this year as my dad passed away. I am very proud of him and have pics but am terrible at attaching them if anyone can I would greatly appreciate it. As would love to show him off. Well done on your scores and your test and keep it up.
PS: Sarah he looks very handsome :)

Really well done - wonderful result

There are actually quite a few horses with Arabian blood competing. Totillas carries some Arabian bloodlines and if you look at the pony Europeans last year, Germany fielded a team of 4 palomino stallions and everyone of them was part bred Arab. If you look on YouTube for FEI European Pony Championships, there's video of them.

I'm not sure if this link is allowed (sorry if it's not) but here are some photos.

and of course, our very own member - Nicky Nash's Romarnic Ranger, Premium stallion .

Huge well done for your first Ele!!! Do you have any pics?

Absolutely LUSH! :)

Thanks everyone for the inspiration, photos and videos! That should definitely keep me going! I'm going to have to give my boy a wee holiday til after Christmas just now (due to work committments) but then it's back to it. My RI goes for her lessons with Andrew Murphy (a GP rider?) and she's told me I'm to get a lesson or two with him as well. I think that I'm going to have to wait til February or so for that. But that should be fun.

I never managed to get any photos from this last outing as my helper was reading my tests for me...and the photographer didn't stay past the prelim tests! grrrrr

However, I'll repost some from when we went to Lincoln in September. He is now a bit stronger, a bit more supple (he was not long recovered from a pulled pectoral over the summer so not at his best) but you get the idea. :) Anyway, we managed to get to the BRC nationals - pulled a third in the riding test (out of 35, about 18th overall out of 200), not so hot in the team test as we collided with a board and went disunited. But he was such a good boy. Love him to bits...

Well done fantastic result!! Dressage is something else I've on our list of things to do (at some point in the future when we're both up to it!) Arabs have such wonderful paces & natural balance (even when we've all 4 feet off the ground & spooking in a Westerly direction in our case )
Pasha you & your boy look great, keep flying the flag guys

Pat Smedley had a lovely chestnut gelding - Shannaz, who was competing at a decent level at dressage. He was always in the South East Regions dressage team at Malvern.
Kit Rolfe competes a few purebreds too.

My dressage arab is only 5 months old. I love dressage my partbred i would do a bit of dressage with, but i was finidng over here the judges loved her or hated her and thought i would give her another year. Cause i found her trot work was too collected for prelim as they like them going forward but her canter work wasn't ready for novice standard but im hoping that shes about novice standard all round now. The other year when i was bored and at the livery, i taught her to do the passage and pieffe which she could do with ease, so i know her trainability is there, just need a good RI to bring us on and push us a little lol. We trained a cob up to elementary and he wasn't a natural at dressage so im excited about training gizzy. Other thing with gizzy is she really loves show jumping not dressage(boring to her) so its taken a few years of understanding that we do both lol.

My partbred arabs compete at dressage as well as showing my big boy Tout A L'heure has 120 points and competes at elementary. His 5yr old half sister Just Maybee is going to make her BD debut at novice level this weekend.

Thanks all for the names to look up -- have been googling (or is that ogling! ;) ) some videos. My boy was a show horse by trade, and he is very trainable and sooooo willing to try hard - so it should be easy to move along in the progression.

Garnet - sounds like you've got a rather special horse!

Would certainly love to hear/see more of the dressage Arabs please! :)

Serr Maariner's granddaughter, Vlacq Emerald Icon, is showing great promise - at 6 she has won at Elementary level in unaffiliated competition and was 4th at the Area Festival, less than 1% behind the second horse, after only having done 2 affiliated competitions in order to qualify. Connie's owner/rider is still only 13 and is now riding Red for me as well with a view to competing him.

well done!!!
Yes there are several Arabs and part-breds out there doing dressage.... I'm sure the AL dressage fans will fill you in on topical triumphs....
But if you get bored one winter evening... google Serr Maariner

Well done! I'm not into dressage but I do remember reading about a pure bred that did well at Prix St George level. Sadly, I don't remember where or who it was. I also saw a video on You Tube about a pure bred stallion in America, I think, that was doing some pretty impressive free style.
