Posted - 14 Nov 2011 : 1:31:40 PM I would use a 100 grm for 'normal' winter conditions, and have a 200 grm for use if the temperatures really drop. Lily was perfectly toasty in her 100 grm all last winter (including all that snow) but wasn't clipped, fairly fine coat. (I do have a 200 grm one for her, but she didn't need it). All our horses are different, and I tend to rug according to how warm they feel when I put my hand under their rugs - while Lily was fine with her thinner neck rug our older mare needed warmer rugs. Also if he is wearing a neckrug during the day then obviously he would need one at night in the stable as well.
