Hello guys.

Does anyone know of any sanctuary's that will take ponies on.

I dont really know what to do.....I have been left with a pony on our yard - he has suspected cushings (doesnt loose his coat etc) and his owner doesnt want to know. I brought him in recently with suspected lami (lying down a lot in field and a bit reluctant to move, also had a very hard crest). The owner literally does not want to know - and has now turned her phone off.

I am going off vets advice at the moment and looking after him, keeping him in, paying for a big deep bed and very limited hay due to the suspected lami. He is a lot more comfortable now - so i think we caught it early - but not out of the woods yet I dont think.

Now I am a newly single mum and cant afford to pay for a pony that is not mine. i have my own horses to keep and am struggling to pay all the bills etc whilst I get on my feet after OH walked out! He is such a genuine pony, 16 years old, and can do ANYTHING with him - its such a shame.

Any advice on what i can do - the owner has a baby herself and I know she doesnt have a lot of money - so if i could find a home/sanctuary then i know she would agree - but who would take on a companion who is the early stages of lami?? Its all so impossible! :(

Try Bransby Home for Horses and Ponies, near Lincoln. don't know if that is close to you but worth a try. You'll trace them through Mr Google. Thank God the pony has you to care for him. Well done, I couldn't ignore him either in your position. Hope that you find some help. I suppose a call to the RSPCA couldn't hurt (although I have no time for them) might be worth a phone call. Good luck with him.

Where are you. We have a fantastic sanctuary near us, SPEAR ( sue pike equine and animal rescue) in Warwickshire. They may be able to help or put you in touch with some one near you. I have no time for big organisations generally ( to much donated money going to the wrong place) but in cases like this they won't want to know. A smaller sanctuary will be your best hope.

Possibly the mare and foal sanctuary? (They don't just take mares and foals)

Poor boy & poor you for having to take on the worry concerning his future. He IS his owners responsibility of course, but I like you couldn't see him suffer, huge pat on the back for tending to his needs
Where abouts are you? Try calling HAPPA for a chat, they are based in Burnley, Lancs & are very very good with cases such as this. Good luck

This is a sad story Khira and I don't have an answer for you. Make no mistake though, this pony is the responsibility of the owner no matter what her circumstances are.
