Posted - 05 Sep 2011 : 5:17:43 PM Taher and I went for a little fun outing yesterday - his first since his battle through 2 colic surgeries and all sorts of complications in April 2010.
He was able to come back into light work in the spring and we've gradually been building up his strength and fitness, all the while keeping a close eye on his hernia, which so far has been fine and now after 7 months work he's well back to his overenthusiastic self
Since he's was bound to be excitable I decided on something completely different for both of us - so we had a go at 2ft3" EXPRESS EVENTING!! Torrential rain still didn't stop us and we had great fun! He jumped absolutely everything (no marks for style!) including colourful flower beds, blue barrels and a 'roadworks' jump - things he usually finds terrifying to even walk past - what a brave boy! OK, so it wasn't very big but that way we both enjoyed it
Great to be out and having some fun again after some difficult times. Hopefully we'll keep doing some more fun stuff, a bit of stressage and perhaps try some pleasure rides next year. Umming and Aaahing about whether we'll go in the show ring again because of his slightly lumpy belly (hernia) but nice to know we can still get out there again - woohoo!!!

Posted - 09 Sep 2011 : 5:05:52 PM Great Nic, As long as Nimiety stays on her feet and Angela stays on board all will be OK. Have a smashing day, all of you. Hope the weather is wonderful. R |

Posted - 09 Sep 2011 : 08:58:21 AM Thanks all for your supportive comments - I still think it may have been all the positive vibes on here that helped pull him through last year. He so enjoyed his outing that I've entered for a 10 mile sponsored ride with optional jumps in a couple of weeks time
Ron, yes it's been a tough time but I know Mum would be smiling watching Taz have some fun again (and exaggerating the jump size most of the time!) BTW Nimiety will be joining us on the sponsored ride too - although she doesn't quite 'get' the jumping idea yet! |

Posted - 05 Sep 2011 : 6:26:49 PM Oh Nic, made me feel quite emotional after all the sadness and the difficulties you had in 2010. So pleased for you and Taz. Enter him for anything you and he will enjoy. I'm sure a lumpy tummy can be no worse than a splint in cosmetic value - the best of luck. R. |
