Posted - 22 Aug 2011 : 5:16:09 PM Chips happily goes out for walks in-hand with a saddle and bridle so today I arranged for a mini rider to be the first person to ever sit on him!
My friend Emma kindly agreed for her daughter, Beth to have this very important job. Beth is a great little rider who hacks off the lead rein on her Highland and also has lessons on a trusty NF pony.
Saying hello:
All grown up:
Chips was unfazed about Beth being lifted on board but was a little tense when he took his first step and found he had to re-balance himself, but he relaxed when we walked-on so we did a lap of the yard (me leading, with Emma holding Beth's leg in case Chips or Beth were worried and we needed to get her off). The second photo was after the lap of the yard when we were confident that Beth didn't need to be held.
I must have been at a very bad angle taking the photos, because Chips' quarters aren't that shape - he's actually got lovely, level quarters
Please note that neither the lead-rope nor the reins are attached to the bit; he was entirely led from his headcollar (well, he is only 2 years old).
Roll on Autumn 2012 so I can back him!

Posted - 31 Aug 2011 : 6:16:48 PM Aren't you good with boots etc, I don't use any
Good luck at the show. Chips isn't in show condition at the moment - he looks lean as he's got so much ground to hare about on; if I brought him down to the home paddocks he'd pile on the pounds.

Posted - 28 Aug 2011 : 4:23:10 PM He looks luvly and what a kind way to introduce him to a rider. Beth and Chips did good and it will make your job of backing him so much easier. |
