Anyone know, how much it is roughly?
Was looking out Velvets insurance documents. I totally forgot she is only covered for vet fees (injury only). So they wouldnt cover the cost of the brain mri.
Im now in more of a quandry. Without a definitive diagnosis Im not willing to have my girl pts. There will still be the what if in my head tho. However, putting her to sleep on only a what if basis, will make me feel guilty as hell. What if it wasnt a seizure, what if she doesnt have another one for months...what if?! If the mri and bloods show nothing, then it is likely her narcolepsy worsening. I can live with that and if signs start to show more frequent or aggressive then it will be time. We've dealt with it for 11 years, I wont give up on her after 1 bad day.
Obv Ill get the vet to find out for me but just wondered if anyone had mri's done on their horses. |

I would discuss everything with your vet, take their advice and make your decision based on that, if you feel you want a second opinion then get one. Only you can decide and it is best to do that from the most informed postion you can achieve. Good luck. |

I hate to point out the obvious Vik1 and it is totally understandable that you don't want to make the decision to have your lovely girl pts without further investigation and following every avenue but please be prepared for her to possibly have another seizure and potentially fatally injure herself and then be left for hours before anyone comes to her aid. That is a worst case scenario but definitely a possibility. |

Huge cost without a doubt, however I think it is worth considering the scenario of her having another seizure during transit for the scan. What would the safety implications of this be, for her, you and others around you?
I'm afraid that it gets no easier. |

I am expecting it to be alot. I know how much MRI's cost the NHS...eek!! If it is £1kish, thats fine, Ive got that and will go ahead. Any more than that, I really dont know.
Im just writing a medical history for the vet about everything thats been wrong with her and any odd behaviour over the years to see if they can come up with best course of action. Theyl prob think Im off my rocker for doing it and a bit eccentric, lol |

Hi I was told an MRI for my boys leg would be a thousand!That was about feb this year. As we had run out of insurance money.I didn't have it done as I didn't have the money and the treatment would of been the same.
I really feel for you it's a horrible place to be and the not knowing makes it so much worse.hope you can get an answer for her!

my mare had an MRI at the AHT in newmarket, cost was just a few punds under £2k + hospitalisation costs
SERIOUS money! the insurance only covers 50% of the cost of mri anyway and some insurers not at all
BUT it is a definative answer
