Hi everyone when is it safe to feed this years hay, how long does it have to rest for? I am getting so many different opinions.

Always bought this years hay in August and never had a problem feeding it 6 to 8 weeks later. |

We use ours straightaway but mix it with old. Have not had any problems with it.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about this but I haven't been able to find it.
Opinions seemed to vary from as long as the hay was dried properly it is stable and could be fed almost immediately though it should be introduced gradually with the old hay if possible. One person mentioned an old farmer that thought 2 yr old hay was the best, though I think the average was 6 weeks.

When we made our own, I used to use mine after about 6-8 weeks with no problems. I think its more essential that haylage is rested because of the fermenting process. |
