We don't know yet as it hasn't been cut, but still able to get last years hay thank god! All winter we've paid £6.75 - £7.00 for a small bale and I brought one large round bale for £40 which I am storing for an emergency... Shesky has been getting through 4 bales a week since his Op as he is in a restricted pen with no grass!

Btw Oat Straw is £4/bale here if you can get it

up here it looks as they will be struggling to cut the grass (thats taken forever to arrive because of the dry spring)... also been toold that it should go up as many dairy farmers has had trouble with the maize and have bought up hayfields crop to make silage for the cattle ...

I was paying £3.50 pr small bale of dry hay, that will go up. £35 pr big round bale of dry hay (other supplier and he promises around the same price this year, but i HATE round bales). and £35 for a 4 stringer bale of GOOD haylage (been toold it may go up to £40)

I am in Derbyshire and my hay field is just starting to pick up - I doubt that it will yeild as much as previous years - it was down by half last year.Like Judith S weather permitting it will be cut mid/end July....

We are paying £35 delivered but the last two bales were a bit damaged so we had them for £30 (wot a discount) it must be ok though as his Nibs is quite fussy and he is eating it fine!Having problems trying to get some more now as this was his last.

If anyone in or near Hereford would like to make a joint order for hay to get the best prices please pm me. I envisage I will need 250-300 bales. We have a large fully covered dutch barn so could store extra bales.

I'm in Kent, last year I was paying £35 for a large round but some suppliers were charging £45-£50, spoke to a local farmer and he is not expecting to get much hay this year so prices likely to go up

I would not have thought much hay would have been made yet so prices will still be mainly for last years. Our crop is increasing with the rain but won't be cut till next month - weather permitting.

earlier this year i paid £27. per round bale. and it was manky old cow hay. but it was all i could get.

the farmer down the road i only use when absolutely necessary, he carges £6.00 small bale hay and £3.50 small bale straw.

normally though, around October time i get a load of large square bales of straw and hay or roundbale haylage, which ever is cheeper.

i dread to think what it will be this year

I am currently paying £22 for a large round bale. Farmer said he needs to increase it to £25 from august. I still think this is pretty reasonable. a round bale lasts me about 7 weeks
Our straw is only £1.25 for a standard small bale.

I'm £25 for a round bale delivered

don't forget we had a dry spring - ours is ready for cutting now but not got the dry weather?

Haven't a clue what ours will be sold for (if we get it) but we have more buyers than we will have spare hay?

Hay, in Cheshire is £4 a bale, but who knows if this will go up....probably!
pinkvboots Posted - 20 Jun 2011 : 1:44:55 PM
We were paying £6 bale last year and still paying £6, although they are a good size bale the last lot we had were slightly smaller and made a big difference in how much we were getting through, I am also feeding just as much as I did in winter as our fields have no grass, the only good thing about that is Arabi has a slim tummy.

I think if anything it should go DOWN this year! the weather has definitely been growing weather, our grass is going berserk

We are in Lincolnshire. Just seen an advert locally for hay off the field will be ready soon £3.50 per bale.
Red Rum Posted - 20 Jun 2011 : 1:12:00 PM
That's bad they are all waiting to see what's the best price they can get. I am paying £6 for a small bale of this year's haylage so ordered 100 bales at a set price and paying upfront so the cost can't rise.
