Posted - 15 Jun 2011 : 11:23:58 PM Phoebe decided that she would secretly give birth and no one would notice lol. Yesterday afternoon i noticed her udder getting bigger so checked her milk and it had gone opaque so knew it was within the next 24-48 hours she was gonna foal. So brought all the mares in out of the field gave her a fresh bed ect. checked her at 10 then 12 notice the odd little contraction but there was no reaction from phoebe ect and honey did that for up to a week before foaling. checked her again at 3.30am noticed her teats had enlarged a little but no signs she was in any discomfort bed was still neat and tidy as we left it and she was munching away at her hay quiet happy and relaxed. So thought im up for work at 6.30am i doubt she will foal before then. Well when i went to check on her at about 6.45 after my shower i was quiet overwhelmed to see a bundle lieing on the floor and phoebe standing looking at it. her bed was still neat and tidy there was no signs that she had sweated or even gave birth apart from her stomach shrinking. She had already expelled the placenta and then we got the foal up on his feet and he almost instantly had a poo too. So all is well phoebes a fab mum and little milo as hes named is making the most of his milk bar. pictures in new arrivals |
