Hello everyone, am hoping all you lovely ALiners can help me.

Appologies in advance for a long post but I am really fretting although I'm sure you'll all think I am silly...!

In a few months I will be starting at University. My dilemma is, I have no idea what to do with mine & my partner's horse. My lovely arab mare is on loan, so naturally she will return to her owner, but our gelding, who we own, is worrying me. He's such a special little horse I couldn't bear to part with him, and with my partners hours increasing at work we will need to look for someone to help with his care. I will be home alot but not enough to be his sole carer.

I will not allow him to be moved, we have our own land and stables with plenty of horsey people to ride with in the area. Our neighbour makes her own Hay which is already ordered so that won't be a problem. He is a lovely lad but I wouldn't want anyone under the age of 16 to ride him as he isn't a typical cob and can be cheeky although is 100% safe... He also headshakes so needs a sympathetic rider with light hands.

I also don't really want him kept on his own, and with my arab going we do have a free stable, so I'd prefer to find a loaner with another horse/pony to move to our land (preferably a mum with daughter's pony?) rather than go through the worry of finding a suitable & reliable livery...

Basically my concern is this, does such a person exist? Or am I being unrealistic? If worst comes to worst I will turn him away for the winter, but he still needs someone to give him cuddles! So sorry for the long post, just need some reassurance!

All brilliant suggestions, thank you all very much for taking the time to respond. I know it must seem silly but in my eyes he's perfect so needs that perfect person! I will ask Holly if she will consider keeping Nakeeta with me, fingers crossed it'll all work out.

The biggest issue would be company for your cob. Advertise for exactly what you want (as you have said on here) but try local tack shops, vets etc first to keep it in the area.

Before you go too far down this road, are you really sure you won't have enough time? Will your hours be more than if you have an average job? When I was doing my degree and post grad I still had time to work in a job (3 days a week) for my degree, and keep a horse (my postgraduate course). Obviously if you are living away from home this isn't practical. You might well welcome the break from your studies that riding him will give you. The very best of luck with whichever path you go down.

What about keeping your loan Arab and finding a reliable sharer for both of them?

the more time you have to advertise and plan things the better you can get people to visit and ride a few times to see if they both suite each other then if they don't you have time still to find another person and yes there are such people out there maybe someone who could not afford to keep there own horse in this climate but misses riding ? its a shame the arab is going back as maybe you could of found 2 friends who would like to ride together and your horse knows your arab already but as you say you could find someone to rent your stable maybe offer the stable and grazing reduced to someone who has time to ride yours too many options open to you but just make sure both your cob and new person are insured good luck

im sure things will work out for you, and if u let people know roughly where u are , u never know there could easily be someone right near you just looking for livery and possibly another horse for their friend or partner to ride,, the only way to find out is to ask,,, keep us updated,,,,deb
