Posted - 19 Apr 2011 : 3:51:00 PM I was on the phone to my Vet this morning as the switchboard opened and got an appointment for 11.30am.
When I got to the yard, Chips' face was no more and no less swollen than yesterday but he was less tender to touch. I expected a little reluctance to leave all his new buddies and the excitement of the new acreage but he led out of the fields without any concern. I gave him a good groom in the yard, where he and his old BFF Scandal called to each other a few times. The Vet was late so I just turned him out in a "sick paddock" where he alternately called/grazed but wasn't doing anything stupid.
He was so good for the Vet; letting him feel all inside his mouth (in case it was a twig/broken tooth etc) and even had the gag on without sedation like a grown up - he's never even been bitted!
The Vet said the swelling is internal, but not excessive i.e. it's not so much that he's biting his cheeks when he eats and he is sure it is a sting. He's had an anti-inflamatory injection and is now back with his herd and new BFF, Wally - who didn't fuss while he was out, so I think the BFF-thing is rather one-sided!
Phew, all over.....until the next time! Caryn |
