My sister and I are planning a trip to Norfolk for an out of area endurance weekend, and will be travelling two horses in our lorry. I wondered if it is possible to take out breakdown/recovery insurance for this particular trip, if so who with? (recommendations please) And is it more economic to do it just for the odd long haul trip, or a better idea to take annual cover?

I've recently taken out an OHTO policy. It costs £48 for the year if you're an AA member.

Thanks for the kind offer Stuart, I will do that. It's the Lincoln Ride at Bridgham, Norwich.

We're not going until 21st May, and the only time we've had to call roadside assistance was when we ran out of petrol (no horses on board) on a run drom Aberdeenshire to Sussex, so I'm not expecting to break down particularly. However my sister is getting rather keen and finding rides further and further away, so it looks like we'll be doing a lot more travelling, and it occurred to me that breakdown and recovery might be a mighty fine idea.

Thank you everyone for your recommendations

Anthony Evans. They had cheaper rates on breakdown cover this year also.

Anthony D Evans brilliant used them for the last six year

I'll contact NFU since the box is insured with them and I think they do breakdown cover. I agree, annual cover is the best idea - used to have it when I was in Scotland with my old lorry, but it seems to have got missed since the move south. Thanks folks.

Unless anyone knows of a reason to use someone else rather than NFU?

I've just added breakdown cover to my policy. I think it was £47 for the year. Well worth it if you breakdown

Linda

I would take out breakdown/recovery on a yearly basis, anything could happen even 20 miles down the road.

I would not go anywhere without breakdown/recovery for the trailer. We have had to use ours a few times.

proberbly just easier to take annual cover, mine with with Anothey D Evans, they do it as a stand alone or with your horsebox insurance, not expensive and def worth the peace of mind

(and a damn sight cheaper then breaking down without any!)
