Posted - 16 Apr 2011 : 10:16:20 PM I'm so proud of my little Ginger Ninja! We've spent the week slowly introducing the idea of human on pony. And Sunny hasn't flinched at any of it, from me jumping on & off the mounting block, flapping about & leaning over him and generally getting him used to having me somewhere other than beside him or on the end on long reins! Today on a whim our mentor Uncle John suggested I just got on...so I did. And he was a superstar!! What a buzz you get from that first time sitting on your fabulous little arab. All that groundwork seems to have paid off, resulting in a very relaxed happy bimbling Sunny. I'm chuffed to bits

Posted - 21 Apr 2011 : 09:32:12 AM Yes i do agree there, i have backed horses in the past with zero facilities, i have all the equiptment, its just my boy is highly strung, so just for safety for both of us i would prefer for his learning to be done in an enclosed school with traines people, he may have mellowed out by next year when he is due to be backed, in which case i will do it myself, as thats what i would love to do |

Posted - 21 Apr 2011 : 09:23:13 AM Another gorgeous picture. He really does look fab. I could never get bored of pics like these. Happy horse, happy people (oh, and blue sky too!). I'm not sure i'd agree that you need lots of facilities to back your horse. I know of lots of people, me included sadly, that don't have a school and lots of posh equiptment. Time, patience, understanding and instinct make a pretty good starter kit. Ros |

Posted - 21 Apr 2011 : 09:10:57 AM Excellant, it is so rewarding backing your own horse, i think it gives you that extra special bond.
Unfortunately my yard doesnt have the facilities for me to back my boy, myself, so im having to send him away to be backed and produced. Im going to do as much as i possibly can before he goes, as i want to enjoy the experience as much as a possibly can.
Again well done |

This is such a lovely pic (bias..I know! ) Our first 'hack' out, well around the yard & Sunny had his big boy head on! Happily marched along without a care in the world...next step...let loose!!

Posted - 18 Apr 2011 : 1:52:02 PM Erica Sunny came from Derbyshire. His Sunday name is Briargrove Golden Hanif, http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/briargrove+golden+hanif. He was so relaxed Nicole, I suspect some people may have expected shenanigans! Not sure who concentrated most me or him. I'm just really looking forwards to being able to get on & go for a wander round the farm. All the places we've been on the long reins...but as a proper grown up ponio...with a human & everything!! |
