there's always something that goes bloody wrong. it was our first show today, class was to start 9:30 prompt so up bright and early at stupid o'clock to get the little ginger beast ready(i knew, she'd look a wee bit scruffy as she is out 24/7 and its been too cold to bath)but we were all pruned and pampered and ready to set off so hooked the trailer up............THE BLOODY WHEELS HAD SIEZED!!!!! a friend tried to help but ended up popping one of the tyres so its been a no go i know i sound mardy but was sooo looking forward to going(Hannah was too). well....managed to take a few pics of her so thought id share, at least by the next time she'll look a little less hairy

She is beautiful. Spring has sprung..
Timbercroft Posted - 28 Mar 2011 : 11:10:43 AM
Its so upsetting when that happens ...I would totally agree its the handbrake has seized the brakes on...had it with mine before now and the trailer was only a few months old!
Like you say on a good note a little more time to get some more hairs out and get that summer shine!!!

She is very pretty, it was the hand brake that seized the brakes on your trailer, a friend of mine did it a few years ago and when we had it fixed we were told never to leave hand brakes on trailers for a long period,

sooo frustrating!

When you park up your trailer, if you've reversed into place make sure you drive forward before you unhitch. I was given this advice, and not had any problems since - although thankfully there's no-one here to 'help' by putting the handbrake on for me!

Grrr how frustrating especially when you know its down to someone else 'helping' She's a beautiful girl & there's always next time...a less hairy next time at that!!

What a shame, she is lovely by the way, good luck for next time
alkarif Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 2:23:53 PM
Oh dear - so sad, what a disappointment. Well next time you'll be up and ready for the off and as you say, will be a little less hairy! She really is beautiful - I'm sure you'll have a wonderful show season with her.

Best Wishes

that's what we've always done but somebody on the yard has felt it was there place to put our handbrake on(have an idea who it was) just wish people would keep there hands to themselves.lol
ali bali Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 12:00:24 PM
Oh poor you how frustrating! Youre right it could be the handbrake, we were advised not to use ours but chock the wheels instead.
leiat8 Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 11:49:35 AM
its a bateson deauville(sp) like you've said i think its because its been stood but someone at the yard had put the handbreak on(which we don't)so not sure if that has anything to do with it as well. oh well there's always next time.lol.poor Hannah looked a little disheartened when i turned her back out. will have to take her a walk later to make it up to her.
navaho621 Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 11:42:58 AM
Clouting them hubs does work, but it didnt with ours the last time, we actually jacked the trailer up & that actually seemed to free the wheels up.
LYNDILOU Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 11:41:37 AM
next time try to go forwards then back wards , do this a few times and it usually unlocks the wheels , this happens such a lot when the trailers have been standing over the winter , good luck next time
navaho621 Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 11:40:23 AM
By any chance was it an Ivor Williams? Ours does this on a regular basis & it is really annoying!
Pheebs Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 11:33:56 AM
Your mare is beautiful! I'm sure you'll do very well with her once you finally managed to get the trailer working! Sorry to hear it was a frustrating morning.

Is it an Ifor Williams? it happened all the time to us with our old one. OH used to clout the wheel hub and if would free off.
We bought a newer one last year and second time we tried to get it out of barn, it had locked on. Soo frustrating cos I can't free off on my own.
