Posted - 26 Mar 2011 : 12:43:27 PM after losing ollie i was happy to have the two and knew at least ollie had a chance after racing even though it was not to be. I had no intention of getting another horse as three was really too many but i took ollie on as I knew he wouldn't be easy and I knew him. when I heard the yard star was to be retired i set about finding him a good home which he deserved as he means so much to the owner and was the star who started the yard 7 years ago. I had found someone interested in taking him even though I was gutted not to be getting him as he is such a gentlemen but two is plenty . But last weekend, the owner told the yard owner he wanted me to have the horse and sent him up to talk me round or other half round more like it so it worked HE is now mine. So I now have a new horse his name is deano he is 17h a quiet gentlemen who already knows his flat work though he is a chronic windsucker but got a collar ordered for that. So he is still at the race yard and I am not taking up to livery till i have kiara sold that was the deal but I have taken over the feeding and looking after him, I have started him on long reins to build up his topline and added blue chip into his feed. I have also changed the way he is fed and split his feed in three even feeds through out the day instead of giving him the bulk of his hard feed at night and giving him plenty of haylage he is still on race mix but I am going to wean him onto conditioning mix/cubes, to give him the extra protein to build his muscles up that is why i added the blue chip as i had it there . Here is a couple of pictures he was successful on the racetrack and had four wins in hurdles out of only 6 hurdle runs, He did have his niggly problems through out training but nothing too serious and is retired sound, so I am going to do a bit of dressage over the winter with him and aim him for the race horse to riding horse classes. He is a big strong lad and I have never seen him with proper top line but I would say he will be a big heavy lad as he is already weighing in at 560kg and although his condition is not bad his topline and muscle tone over his back is not there. here he is his racing name was ramsden boy

Posted - 26 Mar 2011 : 11:55:47 PM will be a lovely looking chap I am sure. Best of luck with him. For every racehorse that wins, the hundreds that fall by the wayside... I looked at a 17.2 thoroughbred called Ferdie before I got Madaba, but did not have the money at the time. I always wonder what happened to him. 5, and fired on the front at that age. I've seen some cracking ex racers - they just need to find a different job. Let us know how he goes?
