Helen, it must have been a scare for you.

'Grass lumps' are very common at various times of year. Sometimes my gang look like hamsters

At least your problem is sorted now

Nat that was my worry over the weekend, vet arrived within 30 mins as I had never seen such swelling before, but the vet reckons the proteins had seeped out of his blood vessels and made the area huge.........a bit like a peanut allergy.

My lad gets lumps around this time of year and are usually gone in the morning, had the vet out once to them and they are only grass lumps but he never had a swollen sheath! perhaps putting that gel on his sheath has made him swell?? have you used it before? Is the sheath hot? like Sue said it could be flies/midges have noticed yesterday mine had little bites on his sheath so put fly repellent on this morning to stop the little blighters!!

Not meaning to worry anyone but there is Strangles in my Area.

If your swolen glands are accompanied by other symptoms, please consult your Vet.

Poor Alfie, give him a hug from me.
It's scary when they first get the reaction but Baz has done this for a while, he had to have a steroid jab last summer as his face swelled up too, vet says when it's really really hot it does odd things to the grass too, i put Naf extra gel on his sheath yesterday for the first time i hope it was not a reaction to that

Hi.........my 2 year old Alfie had a swollen face and throat over the weekend, i called the vet as i was worrying about his throat closing. He said that he had had an allergic reaction to something and that we would probably never know what as nothing is different in the fields or stable. Alfie was given a steroid injection and after 24 hours the swelling had gone. maybe your boy has something similar?

The grass has grown a lot in the last couple of days because it's been so warm, it should settle down once he gets used to the new spring grass.
The swollen sheath is probably just the flies biting him in that area. I find at this time of year one or two of mine get swollen sheaths or udders. I put fly repellant on in the day and aloe vera overnight. I find this seems to work well.
