to horses that are purchased by people in the arab countries. Do stallions and their line disappear into private studs, becoming unavailable ? I get the impression that these studs don't sell any progeny.

Absolutely, Nantaz, we are all entitled to our opinions but personally I would rather sell a horse to someone who was comfortably off than to someone who struggled to make ends meet providing I was happy with both people. I have sold my horses to people with very modest means for very little money because I liked the people and knew, as far as one can ever tell, that the horse would have a super home and they have had super homes. However, extra money when horses are involved is always a bonus!

Barbara, I wasnt making a sweeping statement i said
i have known this to be the case many times.

I acknowledge the fact there are good and bad owners
what ever there financial status i am going by what
i have seen over many many years of horses and horsey
people.

I also dont care whether people agree or disagree as
the way i look at things is your entitled to your
opinion and i am mine. As i said in my post JMO

Whereas I don't totally agree with Natalie. There are good and bad owners and some wealthy people cheish their horses just as much as those who struggle to make ends meet.

It is very easy to make sweeping generalisations but the people who mistreated your horse, Natalie, would presumably have done that whatever their circumstances.

Natalie I totally agree with you and I have met people like this easy come easy go.Their horses are not part of the family, they just buy and sell horses get bored, move on to the next best thing, with them it's all about competing, having the best and red rosettes

After many years of being around horses and horsey
people i have to say some of the worse to look after
them is quite often the people who have lots and lots
of money. The people with less seem to struggle to
give there horses before there selves. I sold a mare
many years ago thinking it was best for her and that
if anything ever went on she would have the best of
everything. I was so very wrong. A year later i bought
her back with mud fever as high as i had ever seen it
and she was so skinny had to be turned away for a year.
I thought i had done my best by her but they were keeping
her in a stable totally different to what they had shown
me and so on. There are no guarentes but myself personally
i would rather sell to someone who i knew had very little
but would give there last penny to feed a horse rather
than someone with fantastic facilities and pots of money.
The people who often have the money will usually want the
latest model and what ever in at the time so they usually
pass on. JMO This is not in every case as we all know
people with and without who treat animals badly.

You often have to think that people who have money usually
have it because they hold on to it not like someone like
me who live week by week but would do and give anything
for my horses again just my opinion

It's a thought that's crossed my mind every now and then. I guess a few bob thrown here and there doesn't mean much if you have squillions, and in effect anythings disposable, putting no value on the animal or person.

I have often wondered this, I hear that they dont believe in putting down in muslim countries and if the horses fall out of favour they are mostly given away ,often to pull carts in fates seen by some of the other rescue threads !
after saying this, it is just hearsay.
I havent had first hand knowledge of it, and I know that some arabs do treasure their horses and care for them well, I know of some good stories as well as some bad. one bad one involved a Charismma daughter who was sold for a large amount of money but when I asked how she was getting on, was told she is no longer with that stud so I wonder what happened to her I didnt breed her but I did cover the mare for the owner and I still think of her and her fate dont think that because they have sold for a high price they will automatically be well cared for, do your homework first.

Depends on the stud. Many of them sell/exchage with others in the middle east or give as gifts and a few do sell outside the ME but often they are unavailable. However, they are not the only ones; the wonderful Asfour was not available to outseide mares. If you wanted a foal of his you had to buy it or but one of their mares in foal to him.
