I have Equimats in two of my stables, which I have been pleased with, though in one of the stables the mats stretched , creating a bump,so they had to be cut down to size, which was a bit of a nuisance moving bedding etc., and then it stretched again in the same place. I am about to put mats down in my third stable and will probably get Equimats again, but have seen the Robinson's EVA mats, which are a lot thicker than Equimats, and work out at about half the price. Does anyone have experience of them--especially long term to see how long they last? They don't inter lock like the Equimats, so do they stay in place okay?

We have used wood pellets and straw at different times on ours, no real problems with bedding getting underneath.

Eeyore--that's interesting you've tried both and prefer the Equimats. The stretching has been annoying for me though, and it's weird it only happened in one---both stables were fitted exactly the same way and the other has been fine.
Hi Jill--I thought I remembered you had Robinson's EVA mats and were happy with them. The thickness and softness attracts me, but I do have bedding on mine, so am wondering if it will creep under and make the mats lift because they aren't interlocking like the Equimats. Oh decisons decisions!!!!!!!!

I've got the Robinson's EVA mats Heather, and would highly recommend them. Think mine are about 7 or 8 years old now, and still in great condition. I have them in my stables and field shelter and the horses happily lay down on them without any bedding whatsoever (my doors are permanently open so they go outside to pee).

Back at my parents place I did one stable with eva mats. I bought them off ebay, they were 'easimats' and were 34mm thick. What I liked about them was that they were lightweight really thick so kept the stable warm. What I wasn't so keen on was that they were rigid. I prefer the way the equimats have some rubber added so are flexible. They didn't interlock and so the edges in the middle of the stable didn't butt up to each other perfectly. Neem never budged them but she is very quiet in the stable so didn't really 'test' their stickability. She had them for a couple of years and I had no trouble in that time, I used to get them out regularly to wash down and they always went back in and stayed down fine. Having had rubber, eva and equimats my favourite has to be equimats and these are what I've had at home. None of mine (of any material) have ever stretched though.

Actually just checked and the ones I got are 1 metre x 2 metres x 30mm. Very spongy! (you also have the freight costs on top of course).

Better still

The Robinson's ones are 33mm thick and the Equimats are 20mm

No, mine came from eBay, £20 each. 6' x 3', 18mm deep. You can easily carry 4 at once.

Is that the Robinson's ones Callisto?

We have EVA mats in 2 of our stables, they are lovely and spongy, but with the horses walking on them they have spread a bit, so we have had to trim them smaller to stop them buckling up. They are very light and easy to manhandle, and very easy to trim - did it with my penknife. They are easily punctured by stable forks. I like them.

Apart from the buckling up with wear they stay in place fine.
