Posted - 14 Mar 2011 : 7:47:42 PM If it's a mild murmur I wouldn't worry. My TB stallion had one, quite mild and he performed no problem on Pony Club event team, and also the showjumping team, he was 18 at the time and we never had a worry Hope she brightens up soon x |

Posted - 14 Mar 2011 : 7:05:22 PM My little Polka has one. I bought her unseen and didn't get her vetted, no point, she was coming no matter what
Vet came two weeks after she arrived to check her out and microchip her. I was pretty gutted and shocked at the time when he told me as I wanted to do endurance with her and thought that was that. But once I looked into it and the vet assured me her type of murmur isn't a worry. I remember he told me it's a common murmur in tb racehorses, something to do with the capacity and flow back I think and disappears during exercise. They came back to check that out and do a trot up but she's so afraid of vets she tightens up all her muscles when they go near her with a stethoscope that they can hardly hear her heart never mind a slight murmur!
Sounds like yours maybe the same type?

Posted - 14 Mar 2011 : 6:53:28 PM If its a young horse it often goes away as they grow up. It can also be temporarily caused by illness/anaemia etc. I have met several horses (including racehorses) with heart murmours and its not given them any problems. I would get it rechecked in a few months time. |
