Has anyone ever had this done? What are the costs and how accurate?
Looking at sending Sylvie to stud next year but the stallion is getting on and it is a very long way to travel for her to not come home in foal.
Any thoughts or suggestions? |

I would agree......age is irrelevant when it comes to fertility of stallion semen or indeed brood mares who have bred regularly over many seasons (unless serious accident or birthing difficulty have rendered them infertile) Our old stallion, sadly no longer with us, rarely had to cover a mare more than once to get her pregnant. As is with our old TB Mare....one covering and always pregnant, having her last foal aged 24years
There are equine centres that do test stallion semen....good luck and hope your covering is successful and your mare gets in foal

Age is not relevant to fertility, assuming he hasnt had any serious or long term illnesses in his life and is still siring foals regularly then it shouldnt be a problem. I do know someone that can evaluate his semen for you if you can get it shipped to her. pm me if you want details, I'm sure it wouldnt be expensive. |

you can have the stallions semen tested, most are done when they go to do AI, not sure if this is something that vets get asked to do much, so an AI centre might be a bit more equipped to do this testing
this is some thing that many people forget to ask about when going to stud with their mares.
does any body ask the mortality percentage of the stallions semen when choosing a stallion by AI?
mind i do believe that most healthy older stallions are very fertile,
