Posted - 16 Feb 2011 : 01:43:47 AM She is 20 months old and had a virus and slight pnuemonia so was box rested for 3 weeks with a week of bute and antibiotics. Her average temp over 3 weeks was 37.5. Vet came out the other day and confirmed she looked better and could be turned out. She seemed quiet on Sunday night but still eating/drinking temp was 38.2c Sunday morning she seemed fine and had 4ml of sedalin and was turned out. All seemed fine untill monday night when she wouldn't eat her dinner (she normally wolfs it down) She didn't eat her breakfast either on tuesday but was turned out by ym. I went up and she looked listless in the field so brought her in and she hadn't eaten any of her hay or drunk anything. Her whinny sounds broken and she is tilting her head sideways when she walks and eats/calls out. She lets me touch her ears fine and i can't see anything in them. I hand fed her a couple of mouth fulls of feed and she picked at the hay and sloshed about in her water but not really drinking. Her temp was 39.5c and she just wants to slepp at the back off er box. I phoned the vets and they are coming in the morning. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas about what it could be ? |

Posted - 19 Feb 2011 : 1:52:51 PM Thanks everyone :) Still no improvement from Wednesday. Scoping confirmed pnuemonia but chest x rays are clear so no foreign objects. She has a mass swelling down the left side of her soft palate which is obstructing her airway. They think it might be the result of an imbedded wood splinter or infection from trauma. They are scoping her twice daily and hope that she will develop an abscess around the source of infection. She is managing a few mouthfulls of haylage a day but is not drinking. |

Posted - 17 Feb 2011 : 12:17:28 AM Thank guys vet came out this morning and she was having trouble breathing so took her into the hospital. They scoped, scanned and x rayed her today and she has a lung infection and a mass swelling in her upper airway which they think might be a wood splinter. She's on observation through the night and will be re scoped in the morning and has a consult with the neuro specialist.
