Posted - 14 Feb 2011 : 8:57:41 PM As we're all showing and over our Russians, Crabbets, Spanish, Egyptian, Polish etc. Can you please post a pic and details of any purebred you have or had that was bred at Tersk.
Must have been born out there and how/when did you acquire them? Po has a rather sad story I think of Russia to UK but I think without that 'grit' they seem to have she'd not have made it. Don't they have a reputation for having that extra 'toughness'?
Would love to see your Tersk arab and story if you have one. Also any details of the future of the Russian breeding programme if anyone has anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

Posted - 23 Nov 2011 : 09:57:00 AM Yes, I do indeed have the awesome Gas Matylka, or rather, she has me.
Her grace, beauty and ability to move effortlessly without touching the ground is amazing. As is her sense of humour. I love her unreservedly. |

Posted - 16 Nov 2011 : 11:35:28 PM Hi Fee,
Tersk is still part owned by the State, but is now a joint stock company.
I am not sure if the definition of a 'straight Russian' requires the animal to be born in Russia at Tersk. My understanding from the few breeders I have come into contact with are of the view that so long as the sire and dam were bred at tersk, or bred from tersk bred parents, they themselves are straight Russian. This seems to be the accepted view on other 'strains' such as Crabbet, Egyptian and Spanish?
The breeding programme appears to be, according to their web site,
Priboy (via Nitagor and Marcipan), Amurat (via Balaton’s, Pobeditel’s, Ekibastus’s and Ensemble’s sons), Korea (via Madyar, Monomah, Angleter, Alchemist) Mansur (via Sirdar), Danuste (via Nonius and Newmarket). Balaton’s, Pilgrim’s, Naftalin’s, Parusnik’s, Mukomol’s and Drug’s daughters play the key part.
They have introduced outside blood in the past, Egyptian Aswan, a gift, Spanish Esplendor, purchased, along with breeding to French blood (Newmarket has Cheri Bibi blood, sire of Bengali D'albret), WH Justice (Banderos and Nizami), and Sirdar who appears to be a mix of Egyptian, Crabbet, El Shaklan and Polish, maybe more...
But don't you just love Russians, I know I do! |

Hi Di Ellis,
That photo i've added is not TOP, but his son Jefta see the name above the photo :) |

Posted - 16 Nov 2011 : 11:08:11 AM Wow,Vodolej, what a stunning horse!I love the fact that he needed two handlers taking turns to show him,and boy did he make them run! Nice to see a horse enjoying his job too,you can see the difference,I saw only one minor shank to regain control. |

Posted - 15 Nov 2011 : 7:11:08 PM Whoops didn't see this thread earlier in the year - funnily enough because I was visiting the Tersk Stud!
I have owned Agonia (Gordon x Arina) bred at Tersk in 2000 for almost 6 years. She was imported by Caroline Reid of AV Arabians in 2003 in foal to Karat - the foal was later sold to Belgium.
Goni had her first season out under saddle with Emily Cooper this year... Here's some pics - sorry I love her to bits

Posted - 17 Feb 2011 : 1:13:40 PM Derjava did have a filly but Artist but sadly she passed away. She suddenly lost loads of weight and despite everything we did and all the tests had to be put to sleep, Our vet checked and she was riddled with lymphoma. I am pretty hopeless with a camera so no pics I'm afraid Derjava is very very special to us and we cannot thank Delyth enough for entrusting her to our care.

Wow Yvonne, I just noticed that Derjava is Po's half sis! I also see she had a foal by Artist, Djesia, do you still have her? Any pics of them you could show us?
