Right guys thinking caps on. Sylvie yields beautifully off my left leg but when I ask with my right using the same aids she goes backwards! She does it on the ground with hand pressure where my leg would be but not when I am on her back.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Back, teeth, tack etc all checked out too...

I've taught youngsters to leg yield out hacking; if you leg yield around parked cars they seem to "get" the concept better when there's a real reason to move away from the leg!

I know that feeling. I have the opposite problem. Can get leg yield off my right leg but not my left. I know it's me and likely down to a stronger right side. If I try leg yield off my left leg it's as if I can't give the correct aids.

It helps to take your opposite leg right away from her side. Eg ask with right but take your left away. You might be unconsciously doing something with the left one.

Also try a voice command like 'come over' try this on the ground with your hand as you explained. it might help her to connect the two things. Hope this helps.

It is possible that she doesn't understand what you are doing from on top on that side - I understand that horses need to learn from both sides.

Is she tighter on one side than the other? This will effect her way of going. I know Eba is tighter on her right side, and so she finds movements that stretch out the right side harder and therefore would prefer not to do them if possible.

Otherwise, you are doing something differently from that side. Do you think you are sitting evenly, or twisting, is the rein pressure even. For myself I know I am tighter in my right leg and while this can help leg yielding right to left, when going the other way, as this side is tighter, I am not giving the horse as much space to move into on that side, so we don't get as good a result.

Can you have someone watch you to see how you are sat and how you are riding, or can you video yourself?

So many possibilities! Hope you get it sorted.

If all checked and ok then maybe she is just confused!!

Try to be sure you are not holding yourself wonky/stiffer when asking to the right. Not suggesting you are but i know i sometimes find things difficult on the one rein then overcompensate trying to do it iyswim!

Can you get someone to walk with you and give some direction from the ground, you ask with your leg, they keep her moving forward.
What about when you ask in trot?
