What do you think about this, anybody tried it. I am going to get a bag for our pregnant goat anyhow, so am very tempted about putting the horses on it as well.

I have used them but only a handful in their feed in the winter. They didn't seem to notice them, certainly didn't put them off their feed but mine are all good eaters!

Hey Doug...do be careful!! Some years back a close friend had read that raspberry leaves were good to add to Brood Mare Diets and helps make the birthing easy.

When mare was in labour, she called for us to attend as they had not bred a foal before and were worried. Mare foaled easily that afternoon and good big filly.

....on her back was what looked like a huge....RASPBERRY!!!! growth...the vet was amazed when he was called out to ligature and more surprised when he was told the mare had been supplemented with raspberry leaves during her pregnancy

.......hope you do not have sunflowers growing

Incidentally the raspberry dropped off after about ten days without leaving any scarring on the fillies back!!

I feed Micronised linseed for shine and extra show condition, but also like the look of Badminton feeds Triple top up;

Triple Top-Up
A high fat, non-heating supplementary feed for horses and ponies. Contains full fat Soya, coconut oil, essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Add Triple Top-Up as a conditioner to the maintenance diet of forage,
About £30.00 20kg bag

Ground, micronised linseed has the correct ratio of Omega 3:6 for horses and is available quite cheaply in 25kg bags - even though I have to import it to France. If you want the name of the producer, please PM me.

Could you achieve the same weight gain with sunflower oil?..or use soya for that matter?
T42 Posted - 16 Jan 2011 : 9:00:24 PM
I'd be careful. The omega 3:omega 6 ratio is the wrong way round & so is the Calcium:Phosphorus ratio. I'd be particularly concerned about the Ca:P ratio for the pregnant goat. Don't know if they absorb these the same as horses. Have you got a goat-friendly vet you can ask?

I was gonna try these a bit back for weight gain on my mare, but didn`t know enough about them to go ahead, so also would be greatful for information xxxx
