Hi I would really appreciate some advice about how to contain my mare! As she has jumped out of pretty much every field we put her in!
We have had her for about 15 months but this problem only started spring this year!
It all started when some old fencing blew down and our jumper made the leap into the next field. We put it back up and re-enforced it but then she just jumped the full height! So YO bought some new fencing, however due to weather conditions the new fencing hasn't been put up yet.
So she is still in separate field with our other horse, both upset at being separated! Only now she keeps jumping the post and rail to get back with the others!!!! She is still relatively fussy where she jumps she tests the height of fencing and looks for the lowest bit before jumping it. And most is high enough for her to think better of only now I'm worried that she will start to get braver as today she jumped out of a field that had previously contained her!
Going to try and raise the height of the fencing at weekend in the main field with the other horses, but cant expect the YO to raise all the fencing just for my stubborn mare???
Any advice would be welcomed!

Thanks for all the good advice!!
Topaz has now stayed in the winter field for 2 days now!! She went and sniffed the electric tape but thought better of it and fingers crossed we seem to have solved the promblem!!!!!!
Thanks again

well I'm glad she hasn't started digging!!
She is 7 now and yes a fabulous SJ and X-country machine!
Will try the electric fencing idea as we already use it but its very close to the post and rail so will move it away from the fence.
She doesn't really have one particular best friend as we tried putting different horses out with her and her reaction was the same, we think she likes being one of the herd!!
We are limited with which field we are allowed in at the mo, my two are in the small pony paddock, and the rest are in the winter field, unfortunately the winter field is next door to the farmers lush pasture which he uses for his cows! Topaz definitely thinks the grass is greener...
Hopefully by weekend we she will be back with the others will fencing she doesn't fancy jumping!
Thanks for the advice!

I would suggest raising the height of the post and rail fence if possible, also buy some electric fencing and position it about 1-2 ft inside the field fencing so there is the distance between the two, and make the electric fencing as high as poss with two strips off tape so she can't go under...

this will hopefully make it extremely intimidating for her to even think about jumping it...

My friend had an ex JA pony that could jump anything, and would ALWAYYYSSS jump out of his field and they did the electric fencing thing I have just suggested and he never even attempted

Is she jumping out to get to another 'best friend'?

If she is, then it could be a case of finding out which field she does want to be in and who she wants to be with.

Rosie as a youngster was a little horror and jumped out for fun, but she would see the others didn't follow her and jump back again!

If it helps, she did grow out of it?

Her son, who we planned to keep entire, was the same and we couldn't keep him in if he wanted to be out. even the stallion paddock couldn't contain him.

How old is she? Try and channel that ability - you probably have a fabulous show-jumper there!

This was Rosie as a youngster - you need huge fencing to keep her in! -
