Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 08:56:58 AM I was just wondering if anyone has used 'No Bute' liquid and how long it took to see an improvement. Have bought it for my boy and he has 20ml morning and night up to the max dosage of 40ml a day. Started this yesterday, think there has been a slight improvement this morning but I could just be my mind working overtime at the moment. Am using it for a swollen leg and mild lameness. Any opinions on it much appreciated. Nikki x |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 1:04:55 PM I haven't used the liquid but have used the granules for 4 years now. Rushka trapped his foot whilst banging for his breakfast under the door(I couldn't get my toes under so still don't know how he managed the whole hoof!) His pedal bone then rotated due to the trauma. I put him on it after been recommended by a friend who just puts some granules in a bucket in the stable for her mare who self medicated as/when she wants. She is arthritic. Did run out approx a year ago and thought I won't bother any more the pedal bone is near as damn it back to where it should be, bet he doesn't really need it any more. Wrong, within a week he was slightly lame - back on it he's sound as a pound! Another friend has put her gelding on it who has side bone - he too greatly improved. I think it's great.
Hope you boy is feeling better soon. Karon |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 12:44:26 PM Ouch, Poor Shesky, hope hes feeling better soon. Quarabian - I did wonder about the 'safety' of mixing arnica and devils claw so have left out the arnica for now. He has just been tearing around the field with his pals so it cant be bothering him too much. Thanks for your replies. Nikki x |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 12:10:24 PM Oh not sure then as I'd only ever been suggested it/tried it for arthritis... I have a box of Vetrofen which I brought to try as an alternative to bute for injury purposes (haven't used it yet), but must admit I usually call the vet and end up giving them a course of Danillon
Shesky managed to give his annular ligament a whack whilst pratting about in the school (yes I was on him )... only noticed as the next day I decided to lunge him before riding to take the edge off and he was ever so slightly lame... gave him a week off and he was still a little bit lame on the lunge so called the vet...soo glad I did!!! Now have to rub Tensolvet in twice a day and he is on rest and Danillon Keeping fingers crossed he will be ok and will never ever ride without boots on again! |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 11:05:56 AM I used Devils claw liquid very successfully for a donkey with arthritis. She could not stand up in a morning without assistance before using it. Remarkably it give her three more years of quality life she was skipping about in the field again. However, it sounds like this is more of a short term lameness. Arnica will help but i don't know about mixing drugs even if they are 'natural remedies' Wishing your boy a speedy recovery. |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 09:54:27 AM Pasha - I think he has knocked it on the fence post, lots of skid marks in field and a post poking out the ground. No obvious injury other than a small scrape of fur missing, vertically about 2 inches long. Thought he had an abscess coming so poulticed it but now he wont let me put anything on his foot since he decided the tape and vetwrap are scary monsters. Left poultice off and no sign of abscess. He will walk on it but just a little lame, heat gone down just a bit swollen. Hes fine in himself, still trying to run around! Nikki x |

Posted - 03 Nov 2010 : 09:47:47 AM I guess it would depend on why his leg was swollen/lame? I tried it on Pasha for his arthritis in his hocks and it made no difference what-so-ever |
