Posted - 01 Nov 2010 : 8:31:46 PM You may remember the "Argh" post last weekend , about the thin, sad bay gelding in Northern Ireland advertised on a very "non-Arabian" sales site, who was eventually identified by his dam's present owner and me, via the dealer spelling out the details of his passport as Aragon - Om el Mareikh x CAS Kazurai, and the little rush of madness that ended up with me buying him over the phone from the dealer who had either owned him a fortnight or a year, depending on who he talked to. The saga continued by way of feuds between the dealer and vets, feuds between the dealer and transport firms, with bank trnsfers going astray and then turning up in the dealer's account, minus £7.40 of the amount transferred - no one knew why - plus monies transferred to the vet's private account and no vet cert forthcoming, to the transporter going AWOL for a week and no-one knowing if/when A would be shipped over, or by whom. This Sunday, I managed to get hold of the dealer who told me that he had taken A up to his transporter the previous day, and that he was now on that person's transport and being loaded onto the ferry as we spoke!! AAgh all over again! When I asked the dealer why he hadn't phoned me to tell me this he said" Ah well, I suppose I just forgot"! I then couldnt contact the transporter via the drivers wife (called George, according to the dealer) whose number was the only one the dealer had! Many frantic texts and messages left on unanswered phones later, she phoned and said "where are you - near Bristol?" NOOO! Kent! Anyway - at 4.30pm Aragon walked down the lorry ramp into the yard as quiet and regal as you like - surveyed the scene, strolled over to the stables behind me and into his stable and began tucking into a very large haynet as if he had been there all his life! He is very thin and doesn't appear to have much experience of being handled - puzzled at body, voice and hand cues, but cottons on with repetition in a very calm quiet way, and then is fine. He is very grubby and unkempt but is the most stunningly beautiful horse with enormous presence and graciously greeted everyone who came to marvel at him. He is very like his sire, especially his truly beautiful head; he seems all in one piece with a fabulous long stride, great length of rein and lovely clean legs and good feet. I'm rather overwhelmed by him, to be honest; he is so unlike Ryazan, who is a short coupled, in your face, bouncy opinionated Crabbet chap, who would be wearing a medallion and a tattoo if he was a bloke. Aragon seems ethereal, regal and totally out of place in a little yard in the depths of the Kent countryside amid hunters and cobs. He definately is a palace sort of chap!Anyway, thanks for reading this ramble - I'll keep you posted on how I get on with His Highness!

Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 7:19:25 PM OMG what a beaut....you are such a great person giving this lovely horse a home. I shall watch and read over the coming months to see how he progresses.....also I agree with Linda above, your loving home is worth far more than a busy grand place. " He is much too good for me" psah! and rubbish! you are definitely good enough for him!!!

Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 6:01:32 PM Oh he is very nice - a definite diamond in the rough I love his head. No wonder you are so thrilled with him. I don't suppose he cares much about living in a grand yard and doing loads of stuff - I'm sure he is more than happy just to be cherished

Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 3:28:36 PM Pics in the ether because of my friend's elec supply having disappeared down a drain hole (the joys of living in the country) and she cant post them via computer to me. The lovely Rui has offered to help me post them, painlessly, via his email link - so - they are on the way - just suspended in cyberspace! Thanks for all your kind support - I'm really grateful to all The Powers For Good that allowed me to find him and actually buy him and get him over to me; just having kittens (foals??) that I wont be able to afford to keep two horses long term, cos I wont be able to afford it long term, etc etc and that he is Much Too Good For Me!! He should be in some very grand yard/family who are "doing" lots of grand things - shows, Pony Club events and dressage and Endurance and that sort of thing. I'm only a little old granny! (Actually, I'm not little - 5'9" and extremely fit, but 65 and concious that Time is Running Out!!) Never mind - it all works out in the end, one day at a time and all the other platitudes...

Posted - 05 Nov 2010 : 05:57:14 AM My friend Jeannie - who takes lovely pics of all our horses (no - I'm not the Queen - all the horses on the yard she and I keep our respective little spoilt brats on, Ryazan, and Hen, The Norty Welshie) came up to Aragon's yard and we spent ages with him and she took lots of pics. She's going to send them to me today, and with the very kind help of Rui, they should be on soon. Aragon continues to be a real sweety; he's turned out for half a day at the moment and is very calm in the process. Demonstrated his lovely floating canter round the field when turned out yesterday! Comes trotting up to the gate when we go to get him! I'm treating him like an unbroken youngster at the moment, doing all those fun things like plastic bags scrunched up and rubbed (VERY gently and ditto Slowly) over him, looking in scary dark barns, walking up to Very Scary Flapping Tarpaulins etc - so far the donkey has presented the biggest challenge, but he was making a sound like a badly hung gate in the wind at the time! No panic from A, just stopped. eyes on stalks and ears forward to forelock, and then stretched his neck to double its' length and very gently sniffed the Offending Article! OA responded by silence and turning his bottom on us both! A and I tiptoe'd away! Another little play in the school - again, polite and eager to learn in another sedate 5mins on the lunge. Will post pics asap - he is beginning to get a lovely shine on his coat, now he's clean!
