Posted - 01 Nov 2010 : 1:38:09 PM Ozzy won a small class at our local Equestrian Centre back in August which ment he qualified for the Championship Show on Sunday...!
His class was ridden Pure Bred Arab, PBA & Anglo Arab. There were 4 entries in total (horrid day with on and off rain so quite a few didn't turn up )
They were running late as usual so he stood on the trailer for an hour to save getting wet. We travelled him on his own so he was really good to stand there for so long without getting stressed (we kept hand feeding him form the hay net)
In the warm up ring he was a bit tense and worried about the other horses, especially as two of them were huge 16hh plus dressage type horses (which must of had a bit of Arab in there somewhere...!). One of them did a huge buck which scared him a bit..
In the class he was the only pure bred, the other three were all PBA (two big 16hh plus and one pony). The judge rode the big ones. The first one nearly bucked him off, the second one (big black horse) rode really well and this one won. Judge didn’t ride the pony and luckily didn’t ride Oz. They had to do a small individual show and then saddles off and trot them up and down and make them stand square.
Ozzy came 2nd He was really good and tried really hard. Judge said he was very nice and very well behaved, just needs to put his ears forward a bit more…..!
It was all a little daunting for him really because he hasn’t done anything as professional as this. They even had to show lengthen strides in canter down the long side of the school, which he has never done before.
So all in all he did very well and i'm very proud of him and my friend Emma who rode him beautifully.

No Moatside it was at Brook Farm Training Centre in Stapleford Abbots.
Someone else at the show said the same comment about the judge riding. He probably was too big to ride the pony, but he didn't look heavy so Ozzy probably would have carried him ok. Not sure how he would have ridden for the judge though as he has never had a man ride him, only me and my friend Emma.
Well we can put it down to experience and there are certainly things we know we need to work on for next year (like extended / lengthened paces) if we are to do any more... |

Posted - 01 Nov 2010 : 3:50:01 PM Very well done - its always more difficult up against PBA and AA.
Note for the judge though - they should have ridden all the entrants or none, not just two as they did! Etiquette |

Posted - 01 Nov 2010 : 1:49:11 PM Well done Nichole and Ozzie, I went along to meet Nichole and Ozzie as the showground is only down the road from me, it was lovely to meet someone from AL I had a lovely day apart from the horrible rain. Ozzie looked great and Emma did a fantastic job of showing him to perfection in my opinion. |
