This might be a bit long, but please bear with me!
On Sunday night, Ceece started showing colicky signs, so the vet came out and she had an impaction. She had buscopan initially and it didn't improve anything, so she was flushed with epsom salts in the morning and given bute. No improvement on Tuesday, so she was tubed with epsom salts and given bute again. Wed, no improvement so she was flushed with paraffin and epsom salts morning and lunchtime. She was turned out under supervision on Wed, to try and keep her moving and eating grass. Impaction was smaller on Wed night, so we decided to leave her overnight, then decide on Thurs whether to admit her to hospital. She was kept in on Wed night and in the morning plenty of poo in the stable. Vet came out about 2pm and felt no impaction but she was still under the weather, flinching at being touched on her sides and lying down in the stable (not normal at all for her!). So the colic had passed but something still not right.
The vet took a peritoneal tap and it was bright orange, so she was admitted to leahurst for peritonitis. We took her and her tap sample down and they analysed it and some blood samples and there was infection and her white blood cell count was up.
She has been on IV antibiotics since admittance and has been scanned showing no signs of ulceration or legions. She is improving daily and hopefully will be discharged on Monday/Tuesday.

Hopefully no-one else will have had much experience of this, but, if anyone can help at all, what supplements would be good to feed to support her recovery? She is given haylage and soaked readigrass normally, so no 'hard' feeds. I will obviously be talking to the vet as well, but any imput (and tea and sympathy!) will be appreciated and considered.

I am also seeking to beg/borrow/work in exchange for a trailer to get her back from leahurst to preston (myerscough, I just started uni this week as well!) so any help or suggestions would he hugely welcome!

Many thanks and updates are on the way as soon as I get them!

Thanks, I will ask the vet about it.

She is now off her antibiotics and should be coming home at the weekend :-). I am probably going to give her the winter off now.

Sorry to hear about your girl. I had a foal who started to colic regularly for no apparent reason. She was always fine after the vet had been and jabbed her but then would colic again a few weeks later and the colics seemed to get more frequent. I gave her Acti-Premium, a pre/pro biotic with enzymes and she has never had a colic since. I got it from Mile End Equestrian, don't know anyone else who stocks it. If you want to pm me I can give you their number or you could google them.

Hope she is better soon.
