From the time he first stepped of the lorry into the light and onto our yard, coat gleaming bronze in the sun light. We were all captivated in his spell. He took a while to settle in, but when he did, he had such a marvellous character and temperament.

We stabled him next to his young son with bars between them so they could see each other and so they became really good friends. Always very vocal with the comings and goings of the yard. He became good fun to have around.

We have some lovely young stock from him with hopefully 4 more due next year. He crossed so well with our Orayan mares (as he did with everything else, bringing the best out of every mare he went to).

Then a week ago, he went for his morning walk as usual through the orchard grazing on the lush grass and having a few choice apples off the tree (which he always loved). Then just after lunch, the girls were shouting from the yard that Mareikh had suddenly gone down and was unable to get up. The vet was duly called. But it was clear there was nothing he could do. Mareikh was dying. He passed away with us all there, curled up in the straw just like he was sleeping.

We are all stunned by the suddenness of this, Thankfully he didn't appear to be in pain. And although we have lost him he has left us so much in many ways.

Can I ask a favor, those who want to pay a tribute to him,and if you want to post anything, do by saying you gained, either through the eye or ear what you have in the field, or what he left in your heart,if we're left with something then maybe we don't loose them totally.

Somebody once told me, the pain we feel on losing these treasured friends is the price we pay for what they give us in many ways.

I'd like to thank :-
Mr Aggard & Round Oak for letting him come down to Cornwall
Crispin Mould for everything over the past few years,
And to Ryan Jones for introducing us to this horse int he first place, You always said it would work with our mares, and Ryan, you were right!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I chose Mareikh for Talal Aggad 10 years ago, I really liked him and always thought he would be a great sire. My sincere condolences for your sad loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know personally the pain you are feeling, losing him at such a young age. He has left a legacy of his greatness in his offspring, which I hope will be some consolation in the time to comexxxx.

I am so very sorry to hear this awful news - a young horse taken too early. He has left some stunning offspring who I am sure will carry on his wonderful lines.

I was fortunate enough to be the highest bidder in the Tsunami Stallion Auction and with his great sire line and wonderful Russian female line I sent my "pocket rocket Russian" to him. She in turn produced a very lovely filly - bay with no white and the most lovely head/eye/topline etc - a good blend of mum and dad and moves like a train.

So thankyou Om El Mareikh - rest in peace, join the others over the rainbow bridge and know you will not be forgotten.

OMG, how sad, I had the pleasure of meeting Mareikh last year at Harwood, he was stunning and certainly loved an audience, up on his hind legs showing us just how majestic he was! I have him to thank for my treasured Roe Arabi (OM El Mareikh x Balenina) who brings both my sister and I so much joy and pleasure, he makes me laugh almost every day with his quirky personality! He sometimes pulls faces that look so like his dad its uncanny. My he rest in peace, all my thoughts are with all of those who cared for him. RIP Om El Mareikh xxxx Vicky xx

Jane, dumbstruck when I heard the news this morning. I am so sorry that you and the family have suffered this tragic loss. I fell in love with Mareikh when I met him last year, his majestic poise hit me instantly. I will treasure even more the resulting 7 month old filly we have by him and look forward to showing her as a yearling.

This is such sad news, Mariekh was gorgeous, a horse that struck me as something special; beautiful Arab, beautiful horse, beautiful pedigree and sire of beautiful foals, what more could you ask?!

I sadly only used him once before he left Harwood but got a quite exceptional colt, GAS Polaris, now 2 and very much in the Mareikh stamp.

RIP Mareikh, you certainly left a mark on my heart!

It's difficult to find the words to sympathise properly with those who cared for Mareikh: the Parfitt family, Crispin, Peter and others. He was a beautiful boy and it is so sad for everyone to lose him in his prime. Thankfully Ffiligree is in foal to him again for the third time and she and Mareikh have created quite a legacy together: Darcy, little Bing (in the show ring next year for Barbara) and her foal due at the end of March. I know that Jane and Mark have some beautiful foals by him and have mares carrying for the spring. Thank you Mareikh for what you have done for me; few breeders with one mare get a Darcy!! R.I.P.xx
