Posted - 25 Aug 2010 : 1:13:39 PM My Arab stallion that was supposed to be infertile has just got his first mare in foal.
Presently covering another mare so fingers crossed he will also get her in foal.
Great news for us as I understand he is the last remaining stallion SON of White Lightning. If anyone knows of any other sons of White Lightning still alive I would love to know. |

Posted - 01 Sep 2010 : 1:46:39 PM oh yes, he had one of those bolts that you have to lift the middle bit (covered) up before the bolt would slide across, with a leadrope spring clip for extra security, but he still used to get out and go wind Locky (African Gold) up, there always had to be someone on the yard at all times lol |

Posted - 01 Sep 2010 : 11:02:28 AM Hi Orton, you are not far from me, as a matter of fact I used to keep my horses in Warton and ride all up round where you are (many years ago tho lol), I also used to work at a stud where a White Lightning stallion stood (Mehrab), lovely boy but didn't take kindly to being kept in 24/7 and was forever escaping lol. All the best with Gwynn and your breeding program with him, keep us updated! |

Posted - 01 Sep 2010 : 10:37:10 AM Just to let you all know, Gwyn is all Ok. We are pretty sure we know why he had colic but not something I can go into on a public forum.
The mares Gwyn has covered are both TB mares. I will probably buy an Arab mare myself for him for next year so that we can have some pure bred babies.
If anyone would like to see any pics of Gwyn they are on my website ortonlanestud.com I haven't a clue how to upload on here. There is a pic taken last year just at a local show |

Posted - 28 Aug 2010 : 09:09:37 AM Hope Gwyn is on the mend, must be all the excitement of covering He sounds a lovely chap, we have a White Lightening grandson, Estasansa Abu Estasan, he is 16 now but an ace little horse, has achieved so much in endurance and and dressage with myself, his personality is to die for and he is a great mentor to the rest of the heard. I would be very interested in the future if there were some pure bred White Lightening offspring. Hugs to Gwyn on his speedy recovery

Just keeping close eye over the next few days! |

Posted - 25 Aug 2010 : 11:54:48 PM Hi,
Yes it is Gwyn. He's been busy covering another TB mare today, so fingers crossed for that mare.
The Tb mare in foal has held at just over 8wks, she unfortunately returned this March to TB stallion but so far scanned in foal and held. He does have a lower sperm count when compared to my Warmblood stallion but as vet said he is coming 22yrs and been very underused and previous steriod treatment hence why he had never got mares in foal previously. So now going to be a Daddy!!!!!!!!
As long as the other TB mare gets in foal, he will be available next year to a few mares so hopefully keep the White Lightning line going.
We are chuffed as this is the 1st mare we have covered since buying just over 12mnths ago. Also have to say more chuffed for him, especially as someone keeps insisting on emailing me with quite abusive emails saying he is infertile, should be castrated, destroyed etc and how I already know this so a real finger in their eye! |

Posted - 25 Aug 2010 : 2:15:57 PM We have had him over 12mnths now. He has been inspected by the vet who saw no reason for him not to get mares in foal, tested his semen. This was the first mare we had covered with him and he is a true gent to work with. Mare is a very well bred TB.
All being well he will stand at stud next year at the grand age of 22 |
