Posted - 19 Aug 2010 : 3:45:06 PM And entered Ozzy into a ridden showing class on Sunday....
My friend (who has been helping with his schooling) is going to ride him and we are both getting quite excited about it.
Here is a picture taken in June at one of his schooling sessions.
He is 5 years old and never been in an indoor school (until Tue night). His education so far has been mainly hacking, one in hand show, schooling in an outdoor school and a few pleasure rides.
We took him to Brook Farm TC on Tuesday for his first ever clear round jumping. It was a mini cross pole course which looked about 6 inches high and he loved it...
He was more scared of working in the warm up ring with all the little kids whizzing round on their ponies.... This was a bit of a practice run for him as the show is at Brook Farm on Sunday and his class will be in the indoor school.
The fancy brow band arrived this morning (Navy blue, Pale Blue and Silver) and he is going to look stunning in it...
I'll try and get some pictures and post after the big event..! |

Posted - 24 Aug 2010 : 6:43:11 PM Well done! You never know, I might even take the plunge with Chips in a few years (I've never done ridden showing before - despite plenty of friends who would have helped me with Roger)!

Posted - 23 Aug 2010 : 8:54:20 PM Well update and pics as promised....
There were only two entries in his class (including Ozzy) which was a bit of a shame, but on the other hand it was nice and quite for his first show.
The judge said he was very well mannered and well behaved for a 5 year old and had a good start to his education. My friend rode him beautifully and he tried really hard to do everything she asked.
So he was placed first and came home with his first red ribbon...
Some pics below that a friend took (as i was too busy eating my hands with nerves) The ones from in the ring are a bit blured as she didn't use a flash.

Posted - 20 Aug 2010 : 3:16:52 PM Hi Nichole I am so glad you are giving the showing a go he looks great, Its such a shame I am in Wales this weekend I would have loved to have come and watched, Arabi gets tense in the warm up arena there he hates horses wizzing past him so I know what you mean, I think its something that takes a while for them to get used to.
I have seen horses at shows with the red ribbon in the tail so I don't see why not, it is just a warning I suppose. Good luck for Sunday take lots of pictures and I will catch up with you next week. Liz xx |

Posted - 20 Aug 2010 : 1:12:39 PM Just a quick question, I was going to put a red and a green ribbon in his tail. Is this allowed..?
He gets very tense if other horses [especially geldings] come too close to him and he has kicked out before. The green ribbon was just to let others know he is a baby. What's your thoughts? |

One of the best things you can do to help your chances is to get acquainted with 'ringcraft' so you avoid getting stuck behind anyone, or having anyone else crushing up behind you and disturbing your nice calm, confident performance. Don't be afraid to cut across to where there's a space in the arena or to circle away and into a space.
Do let us know how you get on. Good luck. |
