Posted - 11 Aug 2010 : 8:48:58 PM Well, our boy, Laguna Flame, now 6, has some issues with tractors, stemming from his year away with a new owner on a farm. He would jump over 4' 6" metal gates as a yearling to get away from them. He has been back with us for four years without any incident whatsoever. The other day he was in the picadero and our tractor was working nearby, levelling the hardcore in the outdoor arena. He must have had a flashback because the next thing we knew he had leapt over the wooden picadero wall and the ditch behind, landing on top of the old dung pile. He cleared it cleanly and, later,I measured the height at 5'. The ditch behind the wall is 8' deep and the spread from where he took off to the top of the dung pile where his hoofprints showed where he landed is 5' 6". He then leapt off the dung pile, a 5' drop, and galloped around the field, feeling very proud of himself. Maybe he should take up eventing but I don't think my nerves could stand it.

Posted - 12 Aug 2010 : 10:36:39 AM Clever boy I think you should at least consider cross country with a jump like that nice to know he is high percentage Arab, I got a shock a few years back when my 20 year old mare jumped a 5 bar gate onto concrete to get away from another horse in the field, I am so glad I never saw it her back legs were full of arthritis bless her. |

Posted - 12 Aug 2010 : 09:17:31 AM He was bred to perform, Hazel, but I never thought he'd find jumping quite as effortless as he does. We have just affiliated him with BSJA. He is by TP Starbuck, our senior stallion, who loves to jump and his stock all seem to have that ability. Incandescent Flame, Laguna Flame's half brother, is graded with CHAPS(UK) as a jumping stallion. Ruby Shy, our current jumping star, is out of the same mare as Incandescent Flame, Malibu Surfbreaker, whose dam, Mistral Whisper, (Crown Court x Miss Ola) happens to be the dam of Laguna Flame. Miss Ola (Ayton Rebel x Lola) was my foundation mare and I jumped her in unaffiliated open classes, of which she won many at 3' 6". Crown Court is an AHS Premium Stallion. So, it's all there in his genes and I am proud to say he is 93.75% Arab. |

Posted - 12 Aug 2010 : 09:05:10 AM Fantastic and so rewarding when they show you how talented they are (in whatever circumstances!!!!). Antsar Mohican (Strinesdale Matador) leapt out of his field over post & rails as a foal and he has gone on to event but it certainly wasn't as high or as complex as Laguna Flame's achievement. Slight problem tho' how do you keep him in now!!!! Where abouts in his breeding do you think the ability comes from? |
