My filly is chestnut but have noticed she have change to pale chestnut which i'm wondering if anyone on here have had this problem in past? as am hoping its not unusual of them change to pale colour or lack of something that she may need? eg copper or vibs to add in her feed?

She is two years old

Oo - forgot to add - I would only feed vitamin supplements if you know your horse is deficient.

Modern day horse foods do include allot of vits & mins already - you wouldn't want to 'upset the balance' by feeding too much

I agree if you are worried about your mare's condition then you ought to seek help and a solution to it.

Sadly with horses 'there is always a plaster for every sore' - a supplement for this and a supplement for that.

Fading of the Summer coat, this time of year, is not uncommon. With the weather we have been having in the Midlands we have had allot of sun, rain and windy conditions - all of these will make your horses coat 'bleach' - it does the same to my hair.

Also do bear in mind that horses start shedding their Summer coats soon, as the hair dies it looses its vitality & colour. My girls are loosing theirs already

Cinny had faded dramatically and my hoof trimmer noticed, who said could sometimes be a sign of copper deficiency.

She now has sure limb as a safe way of feeding copper, so we will see what happens...

NatH - If your girl is out without rugs on it may just be that she is being bleached by the sun, wind and rain.

That excalty what i would describe as she unrugged all spring/summer,looks great and healthy apart from her colour look weird!

I'm starting feeding her calm and condtion feed that great for coat shiny and got vitamin/maeral in it but also gave all youngsters box of lick which they loves!

It's happened to Marygold (my PBA) the last couple of summers and seems to correspond to a period of very dry weather so I'm guessing a lack of some vitamin/mineral. I've upped their vit supplement and added a lick to the field.

If your girl is out without rugs on it may just be that she is being bleached by the sun, wind and rain.

Just check her gums are nice & pink, if they are I'm sure she is fine.

If she looks good apart from the coat colour she is probably fit and well.

If you are concerned speak to your Vet.
