Posted - 10 Aug 2010 : 09:00:09 AM Thankyou all again i do keep reading your posts and it really helps as so many of you have been through what i am going through right now. I am feeling a lttle better, having all her family around me helps, but there will only ever be one Tara, and like you say templars i also feel honoured to have shared 32 years of my life with such a wonderful friend and companion. I will post some more pics of her when i can work out what has happened to flickr??? |

Posted - 10 Aug 2010 : 08:26:42 AM So sorry to hear of this and I can share your pain, having lost my dearest friend last year - and you're so right, they do know and they do tell you. It's an honour to share the life and spirit of such wonderful creatures.
Thinking of you all at this terrible, terrible time |

Posted - 09 Aug 2010 : 03:07:20 AM So very sorry you have lost your lovely mare. Regarding horse whispering, I can equate with what has been said by yourself and Lyndilou having lost my old mare last year. They speak through their actions and looks, nobody else notices it, but when there is that bond it is there. I had the same with my black stallion. |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 10:05:00 PM So sorry to hear you have lost your lovely girl. I know how painful it is to say goodbye, but I believe these once in a lifetime horses are only here with us on loan...when they leave, they leave a huge aching hole...but they also leave such fond memories that will always be with you. Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 4:45:53 PM Bet she was glad to see you though honey. It is just so sad when they abort, seems such a waste of mums efforts and also the efforts of the foal only part making it into the world. Tara seemed to buck up quicker than me, she accepted that things just were`nt meant to be bless her |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 3:55:06 PM i agree about them telling you what they want, Just have to listen to them but they comunicate in there own way. VJC gizzy did the same when she aborted at 7 months she bagged up and looked ready to foal, though unfortunately we weren't there for her(friends for you). But we did arrive at the field not long after and knew by her stressed state what had happened. |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 10:54:05 AM How very sad, and what moving comments and tributes. Although I don't know you or Tara, I know what you must be feeling, and I know the bond you speak of. My own girl is 33 (born in 1977) and I will never have another horse like her. My thoughts are with you. She had a wonderful life by all accounts. Sending strength and lots of hugs. |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 10:35:20 AM So very sorry for your loss, RIP Tara - what a lovely life you have led knowing only love and respect until the end.
Your words have brought back my own experience of losing my old girl at the age of 38. During her last week with me I had picked up the phone several times and backed out and then the final day came. Belle had gone out with her buddies and came back for me, calling. She wouldn't leave me and I had to ask my husband to make the call. She had said her goodbyes and came and asked me to let her go. The weather was a bit eratic that week and on her final day the sun came out whilst she was injected and again when she was collected for cremation.
The pain is still there as I type but the comfort of knowing that I wasn't a day too late is greater. I'm sure you feel the same.....
Take care, Lisa x |

Posted - 05 Aug 2010 : 4:16:45 PM Lyndilou i feel for you too, and for everyone who has been through the loss of a treasured lifelong companion. You are right about having this special understanding, it is not there with all horses even though you bond with them, it is a magical thing. Tara always let me know what she wanted. An example was when she aborted a foal at seven months, she started to bag up early and the vet said she was certain Tara was going to abort and told me you almost never see it happen, most are found in the field if ever found at all!!! I said i know my mare and she will tell me! to which the vet looked non plused sure enough a few days later she kept calling to me and did not want me to leave her so i rang my hubby and said i will not be home tonight i am staying with Tara. Well i grabbed a bale of straw to put in the corner of the stable and sat quietly with Tara. About 1.30am in the morning she came over to me and put her head in my lap for about 10 minutes nuzzling me, then she wandered to the back of the stable and began the awful process of losing her foal. I stood there with her and helped her through it, although it was distressing as the foal was naked and only lived for a few seconds i was so glad she let me help her and promptly rang the vet to say she had aborted and could she call in to examine her. Tara could just look at me and i knew what she was saying, i am no horse whisperer, or have any special talents but what we had was irreplacable. The vet who put her down said i had timed it just right as within 24hrs/48hrs she believed she would have passed away anyway, i told her Tara had asked me to let her go. I am feeling low today but so pleased she had what she wanted in life and in death, and i cannot thankyou all enough for all your lovely comments.xxx |

Posted - 05 Aug 2010 : 12:39:21 PM I just so agree with what you said about the horse whispering between owners and the horses who love them , its unspoken , but its there. ! I was blessed to have that with Shani I can honestly say I had it with none of the others , just an unspoken whisper between us I really feel your rawness for you |

Posted - 05 Aug 2010 : 12:18:16 PM Thankyou all so much, i am still feeling very empty at the moment but so glad i was there with her at the end. I have never really been sure about horse whispering but what i will say that both Tara and myself had a sort of unspoken understanding, we both could read each other like a book and i could see over the last few weeks she was getting weary, then on the last day she looked at me and said mum i have had enough. The vet diagnosed the start of liver and heart shutdown and we took her over to say goodbye to her latest family eddition our foal Eric then let her go with her dignity in tact. I will post some pics soon but it is all still a bit raw. Thankyou all again and Babs your words are so kind, you knew her so well.xxxx |
