Mandy's Maestro has been threatening to win a race all season and we may have found the key to him.

He has always worked like a better horse than what he has shown on the racecourse and for the first time his rider made plenty of use of him and it seemed to do the trick.

He raced from 9lb out of the handicap and Dushyant Dooyea put up a further 15lb o/w.

A memorable day with a most unexpected outcome and he now goes to Hereford on 21st August for a 0-180 1m handicap.

Arab Racing Review By Paul Simmons

Huntingdon Saturday 7th August

1st race – The www.aroracing.co.uk Maiden Stakes over 1 Mile:
An extremely impressive victory here from Lesley Hartley’s homebred gelding El Edjban (Makzan x Shunah by Shomran) who out galloped his rivals in excellent fashion showing an excellent turn of foot that his dam Shunah was famed for in her racing days. El Adjban (which means the bees knees in Arabic) was always prominent under a confident Martin Smith behind pace setter Jaady. As they entered the home straight Jaady was headed by the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Hajes, but El Adjban was set about his work inside the final furlong and gamely responded to Smith’s pressure galloping readily clear of Hajes to win by a length for owner/breeder Lesley Hartley and trainer Gill Duffield. Speaking afterwards Lesley said “He’s very special as he is the last foal of his dam and I have always thought the world of him, I am very proud to see him win on only his second start.” Hajes (Vertigo x Al Muhabah) ran another great race in second, he rallied hard inside the final furlong but was always being held by the winner, he is a smart performer and should be winning soon. The eye catcher of the race though was Loran (Doran x Mangaline Du Loup), a strapping daughter of the American Dormane son Doran, she looked out paced early on but ran on strongly inside the final two furlongs to take 3rd from a one paced Jaady.

2nd race – The Athbah Stud 0-45 Handicap Stakes over 6 Furlongs:
Another owner/breeder victory here as Eric Legg’s enigmatic mare Golden Dream finally repaid the faith of her persistent trainer Carol Legg (Eric’s daughter) by recording her first victory after 17 attempts, but this speedy grey mare did so in fine style under an energetic ride from talented young jockey Ollie Garner. The field went a fair pace over this sprint trip with Millenium Leap leading them out along the back and into the home straight with Golden Dream and Lady Marisha both prominent, as they entered the final furlong it was Millenium Leap under owner/trainer/jockey Mark Cooper and Golden Dream who battled it out for victory, with Ollie Garner (in spite of losing his right stirrup) driving 10/1 shot Golden Dream (Khairoaun x Autumn Dream) on to record her first victory by two lengths. Speaking afterwards her delighted trainer Carol Legg said “I have persisted with her because I knew she had ability and could win as long as the conditions were right, she has loads of speed at home and I am glad she has now won and proved me right after all these years. She is the progeny of Autumn Dream out foundation mare and they have all now won.” Millenium Leap (Khairoaun x Balla Star) ran another solid race back in second, she cut out a decent clip and went all out inside the final furlong but couldn’t get past the winner. Mahbishai (Mahbuba x Lola Caramba) finished with a good run down the straight and ran on strongly for third and is one to watched when upped in trip at this grade.

3rd race – The ARO Dinner Dance OPEN (TB & AA) Handicap 0-160 over 2 Miles:
An impressive victory here for the Mattoni (Presidium x Mrs Magic) recording his first win after 22 attempts for owner/trainer Chris Culleton, he made all under a confident ride from Scott Bradbury and galloped easily clear inside the final furlong to pull four lengths clear at the line. Speaking afterwards winning owner Chris said “He’s a lovely horse and I am pleased he’s won as he likes his racing, he’s just a hack at home and was show jumping last weekend and its great to get a win out of him.” Litigious ran a blinder back in second for Helen Bona, she was held up with a run but came with strong run inside the final furlong to take second close home from a tiring Straffan Cyclone the 1/2fav. The latter ran well and made a bold bid but was one paced in the final furlong and lost second near the post.

4th race – The Kelanne Stud 0-55 Handicap Stakes 1 Mile 1 Furlongs:
An emphatic victory here for the Zayin Arabian Stud owned and bred mare Sakeena Sky Zayin who scored a pillar to post victory under an inspired ride from David Turner, in doing so finally losing her maiden tag after 17 runs. Turner jumped Sakeena Sky Zayin off behind but quickly moved into the lead along the back straight before quickening clear four furlongs out, as they headed into the home straight 5/4 fav Senor Dublcheck threw down his gauntlet and challenged Sakeena but she maintained her lead inside the final furlong and despite Senor Dublcheck rallying hard inside the last half furlong Sakeena Sky Zayin (Karmah x Sweet Simplicity) won by half a length for the Zayin Arabian Stud. Speaking afterwards winning trainer Beverley Deutrom said “She’s a tough mare and has plenty of ability, and we’ve had a few problems with her this year, but I felt she would run a big race today in this grade as she has been working well at home, and I am pleased to secure a win for her owner who hasn’t had a winner racing for 11 years!” Senor Dublcheck (Bengali D’Albret x Mais) ran a superb race in second, he travelled well throughout and galloped on strongly inside the final two furlongs but the winner would not be denied victory on this occasion, he is progressing nicely and is one to note next time out in this grade. Whilst Bonham (Bakara x Bonnie Jet) flew inside the final furlong down the stands rail and was gaining with every stride in the final furlong and was only a length and half back in third ahead of Hayleys Comet.

5th race – The GT Exhibitions 0-80 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile:
David Turner continued his purple run with another victory here on the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s smart maiden winner Al Hasem (Simoun Ben Zid x Rakha) who made all under an enthusiastic ride from Turner to out gallop the field and stayed on well inside the final furlong to hold on for victory by a length and a half for in form trainer Salem Hakmani. Back in second was a back to form No Frylls (Dormane x Fryga) who seemed outpaced along the back straight but ran on strongly under pressure inside the final furlong and chased the winner all the way to the line going down by a length and a half. Whilst WFA Leopard (Bengali D’Albret x Lapsana) at the grand old age of 12 proved he is no back number powered down the centre of the track and finished like a train half a length back in third.

6th race – The Kelanne Stud 0-95 Handicap Stakes over 6 Furlongs:
HH Sheikh Hamdan’s imposing homebred mare Haneen cut out the pace for this competitive sprint event with the rest of the field bunched in behind, they quickened up along the back straight and as they turned for the final two furlongs Mutafani and Ashwaaq lay down their challenges. As they hit the final furlong it was an in form David Turner yet again on the Royal Cavalry Of Oman’s Mutafani (Amer x Cheikha) who blasted into the lead and held on well to win by three quarters of a length at the post, giving Turner a treble for the day and trainer Salem Hakmani his fourth victory of the season. Back in second was another strong run from Haneen (Prince D’Orient x Maheba De Piboul) who tried to gamely make all and went down fighting, she is classy filly and should be winning soon. Whilst back in third stablemate Juhood (Al Sakbe x Tamani) ran on strongly in the closing stages to snatch third from Ashwaaq.

7th race – The Athbah Stud 0-65 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
Another excellent performer from the powerful Duffield stable as Phil Collington rode a confident race on Majaales (Chndaka x Seglaoui), always prominent he galloped into a strong lead five furlongs out and out stayed his rivals in dour fashion inside the final furlong to win impressively going away by three lengths for HH Sheikh Hamdan and trainer Gill Duffield scoring a double on the day. Back in second was a career best for the colt Balzan (Makzan x Balquees), he travelled well and stayed on strongly inside the final tow furlongs chasing the winner all the way to the line and whilst he never looked like reaching Majaales he was well clear of the field. Five lengths was Katwalk (Makzan x CS Shamal) who ran a race full of promise back in third, she was held up with a run and came with a good run inside the final two furlongs and stayed on well ahead of a one paced Final Fling.

8th race – The Racing for Change OPEN Handicap (TB & AA) over 6 Furlongs:
An excellent performance here from Mandys Maestro (Brahms x Belle Masque) who was always in the front on the large field and quickened to lead inside the final furlong before going for the finish post, but Fluvio and Spirit Rising were both flying in his slip stream. As they approached the final furlong Mandys Meastro held the advantage but Fluvio and Spirit Rising were both being hard ridden in behind, but Mandys Meastro made use of his light weight here to score his first racing victory fore the Ender family. Fluvio ran an eye catching race back in second and looked like he might just reach the winner a furlong but just failed by three quarters of a length. Whilst Spirit Rising ran a great race on his ARO debut under top weight of 11 st 4 lb and should be noted next time out.

Not sure if the roofs back on yet Linda, although someone afterwards told me they thought I was having a seizure (I think I was.....I am still in shock especially to see she's 5th in the ARO Bonus Challenge....your lovely Whisper is in the lead).

The review will be posted tomorrow night. Great days racing and some fantastic results for dedicated Arab owner breeders inc. Lesley Hartley winning the maiden with her hoembred gelding El Adjban (means Bees Knees in Arabic), he won on his second start beating a classy field and is by Makzan out of the that great pocket rocket race mare Shunah.

Persistence pays is the key word for Huntingdon, Carol Legg has tried for several seasons to extract a win out of her homebred mare Golden Dream and she duly obliged on her 17th attempt at Huntingdon in the 6 furlong sprint under a determined Ollie Garner. This is the mare who somehow managed to deposit her jockey not on the track but up a tree at a race meeting a couple of years ago!!!!

Whilst my lovely homebred mare Sakeena Sky Zayin finally lost her maiden tag after 17 runs, 3 seasons in training and 3 seconds, she finally gave me a win with a good battling victory over Senor Dublcheck (who's dam I used to own), great ride from David Turner. So my drought of 11 years (last winner as owner back in 1999 with Sky's dam) is finally over and I can only hope I don't have to wait another 11 years!!!! Sky remains in training till end of season before joining my broodmare band in 2011.

Arab Racing Preview By Paul Simmons

Huntingdon Saturday 7th August

1st race – Maiden over 1 Mile:
A large runner maiden and several in with a chance but as the Duffield yard have an enviable strike rate in these races the selection goes to Tarteel who inspite of being badly hampered on his debut and losing nearly a furlong at the start did well to finish 9 lengths third to Al Hasem (with Razen half a length back in 4th), beautifully bred and a half brother to smart race winners Baseerah and Laqataat he will take all the beating. Dangers come from stablemates El Abdjan who ran a race full of promise on his debut at Fakenham over 7 furlongs when third to Laqataat, whilst Verdora is extremely well bred and looks sure to figure. The Royal Cavalry of Oman run Hajes who ran well when 2nd Menwaal over 10 furlongs at Wolverhampton and might appreciate the step down in trip.

2nd race – Handicap 0-45 over 6 Furlongs:
The selection is Lady Marisha who has won 5 races to date including last season over course and distance, she has plenty of speed and failed to stay over 2 miles at Wolverhampton last time out in June, has had a break since goes well fresh and is the one to beat. Dangers come from Mahbishai who ran a superb race at Fakenham over 10 furlongs when going down by a head to stablemate Senor Dublcheck, he was placed over this trip last term and should go close. Whilst Millenium Leap won at this track in May over 7 furlongs and runs from the same mark again and could easily defy top weight to score.

3rd race – OPEN (TB & AA) Handicap 0-160 over 2 Miles:
The selection is Ditzy Diva who was 4th to Son Of Sophie over 14 furlongs at Wolverhampton and followed this up with 3rd to Trouble Maker over 9 furlongs at Hereford, she should be able to open her ARO account here. Mattoni was fourth that day and has been placed 6 times and should be able to feature in the finish. Whilst Kings Cavalier was well beaten that day and may have needed the run, he won over 10 furlongs last term and has won over 14 furlongs and should be thereabouts.

4th race – Handicap 0-55 over 1 Mile 1 Furlongs:
Senor Dublcheck looked progressive when winning over 10 furlongs at Fakenham and ran well when 2nd to Millenium Leap here over 7 furlongs, he looks capable of taking this event for his second victory of the campaign for the in form David Paton team. Dangers come from Hayleys Comet who has been in superb form this season and was far from disgraced on Dubai Day in the stayers and was a good third to El Buba over 14 furlongs just behind Bonham. WA Savannah Sunrise makes her return after a break at stud (had filly by Khelure in 2009), she is tough and consistent goes well fresh and could be in the shake up.

5th race – Handicap 0-80 over 1 Mile:
The Royal Cavalry Of Oman’s progressive performer Wathiq looks capable of taking this event after coming 3rd to Manaal over 6 furlongs here in May and then a decent 2nd to Hidalgo over 6 furlongs at Wolverhampton in June (Ambrose back in 4th), the step up in trip should suit and he can score here. No Frylls ran well when second to stablemate Laqataat over 7 furlongs at Fakenham, failed to stay 10 furlongs latest she should claim a place over this trip. Whilst Jelvita has slipped down the handicap and has won 3 times at distances up to a mile, she was 4th here back in May to Manaal over 6 furlongs and should appreciate this drop in grade.

6th race – Handicap 0-95 over 6 Furlongs:
A competitive handicap and the selection is HH Sheikh Hamdan’s smart homebred mare Haneen who looked very impressive when winning her maiden by 8 lengths over 9 furlongs at Hereford, she seemed to fail to stay but showed plenty of speed when running well to finish 4th to Mu’azzaz in the Meydan International Stakes on Dubai Day over 10 furlongs; she relish the drop in trip. Dangers come from Galaavi who is an extremely fast sprinter, she stormed to victory over this trip at Stratford last season and was a very credible 3rd to Ircalan DA over 5 furlongs at Bath; she will make the winner pull out all the stops. The Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Al Hasem won his maiden well at Fakenham over 7 furlongs easily accounting for Prince Galant, he has plenty of pace, looks progressive and should be in the shake up.

7th race – Handicap 0-65 over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
The selection in this wide open staying handicap is Majaales who wasn’t disgraced when 4th to Haneen (Balzan back in 5th) over 9 furlongs at Hereford, he was staying on one paced at the finish and is from a family of top class performers including Tash Reefat, Breeders Cup winner Anayid and 10 furlong Premier handicap winner Ejaabi. Notid hasn’t shown much this season but the yard is flying and he won last season over 14 furlongs and will appreciate this trip and track and should be fighting out the finish. Whilst Debrett failed to fire over 2 miles at Hereford when 14 lengths third to Pacific Way, he may have needed the run and won over 2 miles last season and should be fighting out the finish.

8th race – OPEN (TB & AA) over 6 Furlongs:
Night Cap is a seriously classy performer and even now 11 is still to be feared at trips under a mile, he out sprinted Fluvio and Troublemaker (franked the form when winning at Hereford) over 7 furlongs at Fakenham and should be able to land another victory here. Place claims go to Trouble Maker who returned to winning ways when beating smart Anglo mare Dancing Grace by four lengths over 9 furlongs at Hereford. Megabond ran well when 3rd to Yankey under top weight over 8 furlongs, he last won at Salisbury last September over this trip and should be there at the end.
