In my recent posts i'd been saying how Mila wouldn't load and Chris and I had to walk her home from a show.... well.... this weekend was a change for the better...!!!

I rode Mila (first time in 8 weeks)I rode her in the school on Saturday - Walter got some nice piccys of us (thanks Walter) and Liz and I went for a little hack on Sunday. It was our very first ''proper'' hack and she was an angel, apart from a few impatience bunny rears and bucks!!
I have ridden Mila bareback for the past 12 months so I now have a sticky bum..! Liz was riding Mila's mum, Minnie. We will venture further afield next time.

More to the point..... I got mila through the trailer, albeit the side ramp- but she went in..!!!!!! yaaaaaaay!!! She went in once in the afternoon (side ramp with no force) but then she wouldn't go up the back ramp- even with no partition. So I starting feeling a little down, and wondering if I'd ever be able to get her in. I turned her out for a few hours, bought her in for her tea, then tried again in the evening. I took her for a walk in the dually.. we did stop start stoop start (have done this form when she was a yearling, she will always stop when I do, without having to ask) I got her to do trot to halt trot to halt, which she picked up very well,, i played with her for 30 mins out of the farm. On the way back home I wasn't planning on doing any more with the trailer but as all ramps were down,I treid the side ramp again, she walked up the ramp.. had a little sniff.. then proceeding into the trailer. I then walked her off and into her stable. I was soooooooooooooooooooo chuffed with her!!!

I then did the same with Liz and Walters VA Maymunah... she has never been through the trailer, she was a bit hesitant but climned in, stood for a well done pat and then exited very gracefully!!!! Now I knew she'd be a bit warey of coming out as all new horses are... I stood to the side and gave her all the rope, she literally leaped the entire length of the side ramp..!!!! hehe bless her. she went straight back to her stable with a carrot waiting

I love love love working with the youngsters and teaching them all new things. It's the best feeling when they do something, even something as little as walking down the road and back on their own. I love it

Hey Fee...

Yay go you for your hard work.

Mila has done quite a bit in her 4 years, but everytime she learns something new or does something that you know she tried her hardest, i am just so proud of her...!!!!! We are starting to go out on hacks now and i am slowly introducing some schooling work too which she is picking up.

The babys (young ladies i should say) are soooo much fun to work with. And like yu say ''when the penny drops'' i could cry with proudness..!! hehe.

I will try and upload piccys but i am pants at it..!!

I love your piccys of the girls... they look so happy.

Thanks Ange... I will email new piccys for you, ridden ones this time - yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....!!!!!!!!!

Hey Milothka that's great! I'm having the same fun as you right now it seems. My 3 year old hasn't seen or done much and when she came she believed if you want something or want to go somewhere you shove and if that doesn't work, you shove harder! Now, she will (most of the time) back up with a fingertip which is awesome from where I started but loads more to do as I get her even lighter and more responsive.

I'm like you and just adore all the little 'penny dropped' moments and the gradual changes in her and she so makes me laugh!

You just can't beat it!

Keep us posted and pics are a must!

Thanks PinkvBoots.
I will defo continue with the halter work as that seems to work. May will have more training as and when I go to visit Mila, I only get to go over once a month but I guess thats better than nothing.

Well done the halter work will really help I have tried the same method with two horses with great success, although one did end up not loading again a while later.
What I will say though is once she is on you could try reversing her straight of then re load her it seems to work and just repeat a few times, you also mention she jumped the entire side ramp when coming off, I never use the side ramps for this reason have seen a nasty accident when a horse jumped on the person leading it. my Sister was also dragged along the floor by our gelding coming out of the side ramp.
I find that they see the front exit and make a fast dash for out much safer reversing them off. good luck and keep up the good work.

Hello Honey..

Yeah we have tried the feeding a little bit on the rmap and moving slowly further into it.. she just strechets out until she about falls over, haha. She has travelled more times than I can count on my hands... she is just being stubborn. I would love to leave the trailer in a field and put her tea in there.. but as she isnt with me at the moment and I dont have a trailer yet.. its a little bit hard doing that... but I will defo do that when she is home.

just a little suggestion have you tried feeding her hard feed in the trailer, even setting it on the ramp to start with and then slowly moving it up the ramp. We used to have a lorry and we left the ramp down with a bucket of feed the youngsters loved going into the lorry and did same with hard loaders just left there feed in the trailer. One particular horse we had a stable that you could back the trailer up to so we did just this, blocked either side in and left her food in it, by end first day she was in and out of the trailer, we just fed her little but often to encourage her to go in and out as often as possible.
