I am sad to say that George White passed quietly away today.

George was the Stud Manager to Lady May Abel-Smith at Barton Lodge, home to Nuhra and her descendants such as Riaz and Darjeel, Kazra and so on.

I am sure that we all wish our very best to his wife Joan and daughter Pauline at this sad time.

George was one of lifes gentlemen and so knowledgeable.... I can hear him now "always put beauty on top" and "never beat 'em cos while you're trying to beat one devil out of a horse you'll beat seven in". He taught me a lot about the Barton Lodge foundation mare Nuhra, she was from Bahrain. We shared a love for the horses of Bahrain, George often visited and advised me on my Bahraini horses here in Herefordshire.

Tony and I will miss him and our thoughts are with Joan and Pauline.

Very sad news, a true loss of a British Arabian Horse legend. He visited here a few years back and only had positive things to say about horses. Never judged on negative traits, which, these days is a rariety. Incredibley knowledgably about breeding having fantastic hands on 'old fashioned & proper' stallion and mare management. He was fascinating and very willing to share his wisdom with you. A real gentleman and he loved Ffatal so for that alone he was my hero :) RIP xx

R.I.P. George. I shall never forget my first visit of many to meet you, the beautiful mares and the lovely Darjeel. It was an honour to meet you and the advice you gave me has always stood me in good stead. Thank you.

I remember George very well, I bought Sam (Sayan who is now 26) from him 23 years ago, Sam was kept at Barton Lodge during summer until the children(5 & 7 at the time) went back to school, in that time George helped me and didn't mind the children going up there with me nearly every day, even when Sam came home I used to ride up to Barton Lodge to see him, He was a very kind and knowledgable man who will be greatly missed by all those who have had the pleasure of meeting him

What sad news. I know that George was a mine of information to many people who were interested in the breeding of English Arab horses. His knowledge and experience proved to be invaluable to many, not least the late Linda Hannaford (from whom I bought my first Arab filly) who bought Shalkar from Lady May as part of her establishment of Milbrook Stud - the home of the Arabian Knights Team Chasing outfit. Linda's husband Roger spoke fondly of George and of how extensive his knowledge of the breed was and how valuable his knowledge was.
Deep condolences to Joan and Pauline.
RIP George.
