Hi,

Again not arabs, sorry people. But i have recently bought a warmblood type yearling colt that has had a rough start, not been fed well and very nervous. I am planning to bring him round over the summer, have him passported, have the farrier and have him leading etc nicely as you would expect from any well mannered long yearling before I sell him on, as I ma not intending to keep him. He is a very attractive dark bay warmblood type to mkae around 16 - 16.2 we think. I have already had people enquiring how much I will want for him when I judge him ready to sell on and I really don't know what to say. I didn't pay very much for him, and have no idea of his breeding or parentage, but he is very niecly put together with a nice head and good clean legs. What would you suggest as a reasonable price to make sure I'm not over pricing him so I don't get any interest and not letting him go for nothing so not gaining out of my hard work?

I know this probably sounds mercenary to some of you but I can't put all this time, money and food into him without some return, and at least i can make sure he has a nice start and has his manners so is less likley to be badly treated in the future.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

i will be but he is only a year old and very skinny and unhandled at the moment so I think it would be just too much for him, thinking i'll have him done in a few months when he's a bit calmer and happier with people!

Personally I think you should get him gelded ASAP. Without papers you are unlikely to get anyone wanting him as a stallion and he will be easier to handle and sell as a gelding.

I agree that £2 -3K sounds a fair price for him if he is a nice type.

Good luck with him, I hope he finds a lovely home.

I'd wait and see how he turns out and what his genuine temperament is like. Once he puts a bit of weight on and is more comfortable with being a 'horse with a person' you will begin to see his potential value.

I'd say temperament is going to be important. There are going to be lots of unwanted horses around over the coming years so it may not be a hugely profitable thing anyway. However it's great that he's in the hands of someone who cares about his present and future and is willing to put some time and dedication into him.

Good luck with the boy!

that's what I had found but I don't have anything for him, not even a passport yet!

Quick flick through H&H youngstock section says £2,000 or £2,500 if you had papers showing his breeding.
Best of luck with him.
